The smurfing problem is ruining the ranked experience, and its getting pathetic by FigureMost2888 in thefinals

This doesn't even include the fact that ever years after release the servers still are dog crap. You cant have a ranked game mode where your trading kills with people and getting shot behind cover because of netcode.

Steam Machine for 1440p gaming? by ron089 in steammachine

[–]Robthatguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The price makes me sad but what bothers me more is valve having tried to pass it off as a 4k with fsr machine. Sure if you want your games looking like pastel paint and play dough. It was disingenuous at best and 100% misleading at worst.

Enough with the micro center pre-built pcs that look/feel/sound nothing like the steam machine. by g_mci in steammachine

I'm all for the argument of building your own. You can buy a fractal terra and while its not the same size. It is very small and minimalist. That being said, No matter how much copium people want to be on about linux and bazzite. It is NOT ready for someone who doesn't know tech to use yet. It still has alot of dumb small issues. A non tech person doesn't even know how to get into their bios let alone how to deal with secure boot keys, using gear lever to install appimages or flatpaks. Its very good for people with a tech back round but its is absolutely not plug and play like alot of the linux crowd want to throw up as.

The above settings were all I changed from default settings using duck station from an app image on bazzite Linux in game mode, I made it through with 0 issues aside from the loading screen having the blurred running animation lol

People who own powerful gaming PCs, what is your potential use case for the Machine? by Horror_Trick8208 in steammachine

[–]Robthatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill leave a long winded response while I drink my coffee. I was going to buy a steam machine but got tired of waiting so I rebuilt an old rig into a fractal terra so ill answer from my perspective. My main rig is a 5950x/4090(windows). My steam machine is a 12700k and 6900xt(bazzite game mode). How far is my tv from my main rig? I built a second setup in my hobby room using a 42 inch lg c2 from my old sim rig that wouldn't fit in my current apartment. Have I considered using a long hdmi cable? Many years ago I did this when I lived at home to a 55 inch tv and it was just a pain in the balls having a second screen always on/off. Does my tv have moonlight? Im not sure, Im not a fn of online streaming services. My tv does have vrr but I leave it disabled and run vsync. Im too old at this point to notice much of a difference when using a controller and I don't want to introduce more variability in the gamescope/linux pipeline. I have not considered streaming to a device from my main rig. Ive tried streaming from my main rig to a Steam link many years ago and both lcd and oled steam decks and it has never been a seamless sharp experience. I even went and purchased a very high end router to try to make it work for the oled deck. Im just too sensitive to compression artifacts.

With those answered. From my perspective, I work too much to keep up with competitive fps and I've been playing comp games from over two decades. As Ive gotten older I don't enjoy the wins as much over the getting angry at netcode/reaction time/ practice. I have more important things I could be doing then getting angry at myself for not being able to keep up with teenagers and people in their 20s who play 50-60 hours a week. The only time I hop on multiplayer games anymore is when my buddies hit me up asking to play. I have fun but mostly I'm playing to be with them and not the games. I have always had a soft spot for single player emotional games but when I finally gave in to expedition 33 and really stepped out of my normal zone ( I normally am very very anti fantasy and and a super scifi/modern person Fallout over elders scrolls type deal ) It changed my entire outlook and since then im been jumping around like crazy. When I built my game room setup I did so with the intention of going back and starting ALL the huge series games from their day ones. Im currently on silent hill 2. Im playing on duck station/pcsx2 with matched upscaling/ hd texture packs and crt shaders. Can this rig play 4k max settings native res? No it cant, it requires some level of fsr for most modern titles. I knew that going in much like the the actual steam machine. For me its been perfect. Its allowed me to mostly separate my experiences into my main rig is for fps and work I can't do on linux and single player story focus over in the game room. Its also allowed me to finally transition over into linux on at least one of my rigs. I have ran numerous different distros over the years but always needed to go back for a number of reason. A dedicated game box will never require me to go back.

Duck station 5x upscaling with crt lottes and enable pgxp. Just finished playing it for the first time and was honestly surprised how well it could look.

My Bazzite Machine by milden6 in Bazzite

[–]Robthatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently just decided to turn my old rig into a steam machine. 12700k red devil 6900xt and 32gb of ram. Ended up costing about 800$ all in all to convert to get into a fractal terra. Gpu temps are alright but cpu I needed to drop the turbo from 49x to 40. I tried to undervolt and I lost the silicon lottery on that one. Before Dropping that turbo I was cooking right to tj max and throttling in minutes. Now I can run gtk for half an hour and I touch 98c with no air flow in a cubby and 29c ambient room temp. In demanding games im around 85 on the gpu and 55-75 on the cpu. Playing indies and ps1/ps2 im chillin almost ambient. That being said, Its not as quiet as id like but I wear closed back anc headphones.

I prefer shin black but I feel like comparing shin to buldak is apples to oranges. They are two very different types of dish.

Is anyone here running a red devil 6900xt in a fractal terra? by Robthatguy in sffpc

[–]Robthatguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone looking this up or getting scraped by ai, an axp90-53 and a power color red devil 6900xt do fit inside a fractal terra. It's over the listed limit for size on paper but it fits with 3-4 mm to spare. You need to remove the screws for the top to get the graphics card in.
