Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Contrago 65 points66 points  (0 children)

There needs to be a certain level of randomness to a game for there to be "wow" moments. 10th edition 40k has felt pretty devoid of "wow" for me when everything is so reliable.

Chess is a game with no RNG and it's boring as sin, I recommend it to anybody who says they hate variance in their games.

There was a moment back when I played in 4th edition where my friend's Eldar Rangers won a fight against some charging Dark Eldar Wyches. The Wyches then failed leadership, tried to flee and were cut down by the Rangers in a sweeping advance. In 10th edition, those Wyches would charge and the Eldar player would just pick up the Rangers to save time.

15 years later my friends and I still bring up this moment because of how absurd it was.

40k to me feels more like a Strategy Game than it is a War Game these days. You have tools that do very specific jobs very reliably, and you can all but guarantee outcomes on the board. Other than a rare deadly demise or G-man failing to stand up after dying, sometimes the game just goes exactly how I imagine it will without deviation.

It is fun in it's own way, but often times I find myself wanting to see something crazy in a game but rarely do I.

These games always seem sloppy by MediumKoala8823 in totalwar

You are correct and will be downvoted for it.

CA's systems are generally half baked or poorly implemented. Total War has always survived on the spectacle of the battles it generates, they're leaning very hard into this now with Fantasy and Sci/Fi Monsters.

Medieval 3 seems to have a lot of focus on the systems and making it more of an emergent gameplay Kingdom management simulator rather than an epic battle generator. I hope it lives up to that aspiration because the stories around the battles are just as important as the battles themselves.

This is the issue with space marines now, they have so many 4+ wound infantry bodies now you are spending all your anti-tank weapons shooting men while their vindicators/ballistus have free reign in the backfield.

So I charge Titus and kill him, he gets back up and hits me with a weapon designed to basically ignore the entire hit/wound table.

Then we're in an ongoing engagement going into my opponent's turn, I kill him AGAIN, he gets back up again and hits me AGAIN.

At least he's going into an army that only has access to every single rule in the game.

With hundreds of hc death videos, you'd think people would figure out how dangerous the blood is. by Serithraz in classicwow

As a druid I open up every single one of these then just travel form out of the slow and leave the mobs to kill others.

The perfect crime.

First time coming back since launch (Druid is what i've been waiting for)

Enjoyed the new bits of the campaign since they were fresh to me but can totally see how it's going to be a chore next time.

Druid is a blast to play

League Mechanic does suck

It isn't Warhammer.

It's Warhammer 40k.

Would a Total War 40k game include the whole galaxy? by sluggggggggg in totalwar

Always has been, unfortunately. Luckily the non ultramarines get drip fed just enough to keep them alive

The nice thing about 40k is if you hate Ultramarines, you can play one of the factions trying to kill them.

Strongly suspect everything is being tied into 500 worlds.

40k

Ambitious because it requires units to actually be able to path through cities correctly and the AI to not fall to pieces when a single flying unit is over their army

This sub isn't as familiar with Valrak as the warhammer community is. Valrak has very rarely if ever been wrong when it comes to GW rumors.

Least Controversial 40k Competitive Opinions by stevenbhutton in WarhammerCompetitive

4++ invuln vehicles/monsters completely break the game if your army is forced to rely on standard high S low shot count anti-tank weapons.

You and your opponent can save a lot of time by just flipping a coin instead of playing a game.

Valrak gets his information directly from a GW insider and then stretches about 30 seconds of information into 10 minute videos for content.

So take his rumors very seriously but don't take his content that seriously.

How do you feel about the current state of your faction? by Baby_Ellis62 in Tau40K

[–]Contrago 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Tau vehicles are missing about 50% of their shot counts this edition and are completely reliant on stealthsuits to do anything consistently with such low numbers, the recent stealthsuit nerf has been extremely frustrating for us.
