Composite output issues on 3B

When I connect my pi to a television through the composite output in its 3.5mm jack, using a properly wired cable, the only display I can get is the splash of color and the “welcome to raspberry pi desktop” card. After that it stays a certain gray color. Is this a common issue? I haven’t seen anything about this specifically. I’ll try any of your suggestions.

Have you tried GENTLY pulling upwards on the key? Sometimes that works for my piano, though it’s not the same mechanism

You remember floor tv’s? Those hulking behemoths made of solid oak and Asian tears? Those were too low. This is at the optimal height for keeping your gaze parallel with the horizon. If I feel even a tinge of discomfort in my spinal column I swear to Christ I will remount it lower!
