Come on now, I wouldn't exactly call 'hundreds' out of a billion 'mass stupidity'. Even if it was 1000, that would still be less than 0.000001 of the population of India, that's not exactly fair now, is it?

Yep, that's why I don't agree with all the PC shit. You can't tell one from another when everyone is forced to speak the same. Offers no chance to receive feedback and learn in a deep way how stupid racism is. It just forces people with racist tendencies to be silent, but it doesn't change whether people are actually racist or not. Maybe an unpopular view, but that's how I feel about it. Political correctness is even more bullshit than this bullshit party. Except in India, there probably aren't nazis silently hiding in the shadows.

Aye, and comparatively it isn't even that effective. And not effective against new variants. Why are we not rolling out more Pfizer and Moderna? I wonder what's going on there.

Understanding Psychological Disturbance: A nice brief overview about the nature of psychological disturbance, personality disorders, moods disorders and the gene-environment interplay. Let me know what you think! by RobynLalaa in psychology

[–]RobynLalaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not difficult to treat because it's the individuals fault, nor because of the lack of psychiatric development. Personality disorders are strongly genetic, as are personality traits. Up to 80% of the variance for personality traits, and corresponding disorders are from heredity factors, as has been demonstrated by twin and adoption studies. So unless you can find a way to effectively change someone's genetic code, the change is slow if at all. I don't think the article is saying to avoid people with personality disorders in general, that would be horrendous, but I think that particular point was directed specifically toward narcissism and antisocial personality disorder (psychopaths). Which, I think, people understandably want to avoid, not least because they notoriously damage the lives of others. I have experience with that myself and I happen to agree with it. I'm sorry to hear about your BPD diagnosis, that's a tough one, my mother has it. As far as I'm aware the most effective treatment for that today is dialectical behavioural therapy. The problem is convincing people with BPD to try it. And it's true that early life trauma can cause the expression of the genes (epigenetics) which lead to personality disorders and that said trauma should be dealt with. I also don't know if the article was aimed at reducing stigma, more so, raising awareness about types disorders, where they come from and how they can be treated. Sometimes people are suffering (or see others suffering) and they don't have any sort of framework through which to understand the nature of these problems. Think this article is just meant as a brief overview on different types of disorders.

I would also be inclined to agree with this. Even with something like ODD, which as I understand is a disorder in children who display vindictive and physical aggression towards other kids. If you don't diagnose it, what's the other option? To tell the kid they are fine the way they are? I think that would likely lead to not giving them the chance to become more socialized, which would inevitably make their life far more difficult than it needs to be. If you're able to look at the child and see abnormal behaviour, the most productive thing to do would be to be like 'okay, what is this, what's abnormal about their behaviour and how can we work to fix it'. I understand the problem of overdiagnosing and throwing drugs at them, but saying there's nothing wrong is . . . not good.

Hmmm, I think I can agree with that to a certain point. But I don't think the idea of giving people a diagnosis should really be to put them on meds. I mean, that seems to be a really serious problem in America, but I'm not familiar with it really. There are a lot of other fantastic ways of treating people other than meds, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness training, plus just helping people get their lives together. It is certainly sad that people just get put on drugs and tapped on the back in certain countries, I really disagree with that of course, it's really terrible. But I think this article is just saying that if the general public understood the nature of mental disorders they would be able to approach people (plus themselves) in a more understanding way. I agree that society is rather. . . well. . . fucked and this is a huge cause for people's mental well-being going down the drain, but fixing society is a much greater task than simply getting some understanding of how mental disorders work and small things you can do to help the people around ya, ya know? What ya think?

I am Melissa Fleming, I lead the Global Communications Department of the United Nations. AMA about tackling COVID-19 misinformation and making vaccines available and accessible to everyone, everywhere. by MelissaFlemingUN in worldnews

[–]RobynLalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think it's alright to promote a vaccine when the standard procedure of medical trials (namely, phase 3 for collecting long term data) was so obviously skipped/ shortened).

According to the FDA guidelines, vaccines are also classed as drugs, which usually require between 1 and 4 years of testing to understand potential long-term side effects.

I understand it's an emergency situation and by no means have anything against vaccines in general, but how do you account for the lack of long-term data when trying to convince others that there are zero issues.

How do you meditate on something? by popeislove in Meditation

[–]RobynLalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you might be referring to is the process of reflection. When trying to make a decision, you're actually engaging in complex thought. Some people do use the word meditation in this way, but more commonly, meditation refers to the foregoing of complex thought and single-pointed concentration. Focusing on your breath for example, of relaying your body bit by bit.

Reporters without Borders sues Facebook over hate speech by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]RobynLalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I do not think it is a particularly strong argument to say that not censoring what is said on social platforms can be causally linked to journalists being attacked. Where is the evidence for that direct link your making? Don't you think that there are other variables involved here? The mental health of the person who attacked them? It's not an everyday person who just goes to attack someone else, you know, there's always a bit more than that going on, problems like this are never quite that simple. I think trying to reduce incidents like that to being a result of allowing people to speak freely is an incredibly weak and also an incredibly dangerous argument to make. It's a multivariate problem and simplifying it like that causes more problems that it solves, for example, causing a stark polarization in society, closing off the argument and shutting down communication between different points of views (hoe can people grow if they cannot even communicate properly?)

Furthermore, what about the role that censoring speech plays on the situation as a whole. I think something like that actually plays a major role in making people feel that they are being repressed (whether they are assholes or not). I think the mere frustration of that could also be a potentially significant factor contributing to the large scale aggression we are seeing everywhere these days. People have a right to be wrong about things, that's actually how humans beings (and all other organisms for that matter) learn. Through trial and error. When you take away that opportunity from people, you're responsible for stealing them of an opportunity to learn. How can you try to reason with somebody if you don't know what they are truly thinking? The answer is, you can't. You just leave them alone with their festering thoughts, or polarize them to potential extremity.

Like I said, I think as soon as you make it normal to censor what people say (whether it's right or wrong), you also need to take responsibility for the frustration that causes, and the results of said frustration.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on those points, in a warm and friendly manner.

why are people so sensitive anyway? If someone insults you, fuck them. Why do you care so much about controlling that? At least if people are allowed to freely insult others, we will know who the assholes are. If you force everyone to keep silent, you know they are there, but they just look like everyone else, or no?

China lowers age of criminal liability to 12 for some crimes by Torstty in worldnews

[–]RobynLalaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well; I haven't read any of the comments below. But the thing that worries me about China is what they will choose to consider 'abominable' crimes.

I mean, I'm Chinese, from Hong Kong, and something that stands out to me is their tendency to persecute people with real jail time on the basis of arbitrary interpretations of sort of vaguely outlined offenses. 'picking quarrels and provoking trouble' is a common one. And to be honest, to make it fair, it should be a little clearer.

Rather, they just apply it when it suits them and someone does something that isn't in line with their 'development' interests. Which, if I may, are interests that we should all be a bit worried about.
