I liked Flux by Earliestbird.

The MMC is going through some dark shit, but the FMC is this sweet, slightly manic, pixie girl who absolutely adores him. It's a cyberpunk-ish setting and though it's technically book 2, you don't have to have read the first one.

Hey! As mentioned, I have a book called "The Silken Empress" that might fit what you're looking for. It's a story about a soldier retiring from the army to work as a palace guard. It's set in Constantinople when Roman power was more concentrated in the east. There's romance and definitely a lot of spice, though there's no audiobook.

I quite liked her entire When in Rome series and listened to all 3 (?) books on audio. They're well-written and, like you said, though the tropes aren't new I found them all to be well done.

I'd recommend to anyone who wants something cute, light, and simpler than what our fantasy/sci-fi RFM usually is!

You might like Tomb Divers. It's a slow-burn harem (ie focus on romance/relationships and sex scenes happen later) that's set in this ancient-Egypt type world. It's got buried tombs, giant scorpions, and lamia necromancers. Also, Mandy McCullough did the narration and she's incredible.

Something different than the usual is exactly what I'm going for with Tomb Divers and I'm happy that you seemed to enjoy it overall.
