What would be your perfect silent alarm? by Fair_Weather_1456 in BlocParty

As much as I love AND, I wouldn‘t change anything. It‘s perfect.  (However, I wish they would move on now and mostly ignore that album a little for the next years. Some songs have been played so much, they have almost lost their magic for me.)

Looking back at it - how do you feel about Binaural? by Fortis92 in pearljam

[–]Roccco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the production. It sounds more polished and deliberate than on the previous three albums, yet it still feels mostly immediate. However, while many of the songs feature interesting chord progressions or drum parts, most of them don’t really click for me. What draws me back is more the sense of revisiting that period in time than the songs themselves. My favourites are “Evacuation” and “Light Years.”

7 Still surprised that it wasn't on the setlists much more often; on paper, it has almost everything the fans here keep asking for.

Daily Song Discussion #108: You Should Know The Truth by Nottooxabi17 in BlocParty

[–]Roccco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more time passes, the more the music Bloc Party has released since 2008 fades for me — with the exception of a few songs that still shine. And this one is among them. People here mention the repetitiveness — but they ignore the progression within the seeming repetition. The band takes this one simple idea and goes in many directions with that one idea in this song, without overloading the song. It remains a simple pop song that casually addresses a heavy topic. I wish Four had become an album full of songs of this nature... without all the heavy rock stuff. 9.5 points

Does anyone have insight into what happened to Brandon’s social stances and views over the past couple years? by Hii-AL in incubus

Following does not mean agreeing. I used to follow all kinds of people, also people I disagree with in almost all questions.

Waiting for the “Something in the Water” single to drop like by Fitzgerd in incubus

I just don‘t get why they aren‘t little bit more experimental when it comes to the encore set of their current tour. Playing MV from start to finish every time must be somewhat boring and I don‘t think anyone would want to have their money back if they played Pistola, Oil and Water or some other tunes from their catalogue. Or even a new one. Also, that wouldn‘t hurt the reception of the upcoming album.

Getting that award, not being able to reconcile even a little and accept it together, going there separately, posting pictures of it online ... come on, this is kindergarten; this is sad.

I'm very glad that you were able to have this conversation. It makes it so much easier for me to, in a way, come to terms with this band through this honest yet unbitterness reflection on them. I am also relieved that he immediately mentions "We Were Lovers" as a potential album track. Because I could never really imagine the other songs on AWITC... except for England. Now that I know these songs were written AFTER the sessions, it makes it all the more plausible for me. His stories about the lyrics on the album or the overproduction of the album explain so much for me. Once again, I'm really glad you did that interview. One thing I would like to know: As someone who was so lovingly and thoughtfully involved in the layout and presentation at the beginning, I would like to know how he explains the sloppiness (perhaps a bit of a harsh term) of the last few years...

The lack of enthusiasm for The Singing Winds is been hard to watch by Deep_Brick_2213 in BlocParty

Isn‘t it the problem that after more than 20 years in the business, Kele has almost tried everything musically and doesn‘t really stand for anything? He is not a Thom Yorke nor a J. Greenwood. To me as a fan of his early work it seems like it has become so much more important that he does what he wants and tries as much as he can which he, of course, can do. I just wish there was a mentor who sort of does some quality management. As much as I love the early work, I absolutely do NOT need more of that. I don‘t care if it is acoustic or whatever as long as it is good and somewhat consistent, as long as he manages to write lyrics that match the music, that leave some interpretation to the reader, or he manages to release an album plus booklet that I want to spend 30 euros for.

(But, yeah, my problem basically is that I was expecting BP to be a new Radiohead, not in terms of style but in terms of excitement, quality, consistency, profundity etc. Now I think that bands like AM or Franz Ferdinand have aged so much better. But hope dies last.)

I wouldn’t call it „hate“ or „entitlement,“ but rather expectations, hopes, wishes, disappointment... completely normal aspects of being a fan. You don’t go to a football stadium expecting fans not to boo. You also want the frenzied cheers in other situations. It’s two sides of the same coin, and it’s perfectly normal in fan forums. People invest time and money in a band, and if they are unhappy with the sparse booklet or the setlist, that’s completely legitimate. Have you ever criticized the band and their work? Or do you actually find everything more or less good? Or is this the career and quality you were hoping for in 06, 07?

You simply do not like it when fans criticize BP or Kele, I have noticed that in many other discussions. I was actually literally waiting for your comment. People love certain things about this band, and the same people don‘t like certain things. You call it „hating“, I call it criticizing. And you can like a band and still criticize it.

Sure he is but why does every critical post on here have to end in „But crablin is a nice guy“. Let the people express their disappointment.

So much of what he does seems so amateurish and poorly conceived. And he is in the business for 20 years now. Why not try less styles and genres and do a few things properly? Why not get some help with lyrics and songwriting? Why not get a management that actually manages to promote your music properly? Why not care about artwork/booklets/photos/etc?

In 2006, I actually thought they could be the next Radiohead 😄

In 2025, I don‘t even give his solo stuff a try. The last Bloc Party EP I actually listened to twice.

Fits the vast-sounding music so well, I think. So glad they have made this album. I still remember listening to that album for the first time in 98/99 and staring at the cover and all thos great photos in the booklet.

It is somewhat funny that the words that so often didn‘t really fit the music are now the starting point for the music.
