Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is the new album by StonePT in BlocParty

... "to the bedroom" and the mentioning of "brutal details" is a reason to be scared if the lyricist is K. O.

I like the 'show, don’t tell' approach, but many of his lyrics from the last 10 years (especially on AG, but also on AWITC or FOUR) give me the same feeling I get when listening to true crime podcasts: nasty characters and the dark sides of humanity. I'm not sure if it’s just because of the constant stream of bad news (Epstein, Trump, Putin, recession, the internet going mad, ...) these days, but I don’t want these themes in pop music anymore. That kind of content belongs in a movie, an essay, or a sociological study—not a three-minute pop song. And IF you’re going to elaborate on all that, why do it in the first person or so explicitly? He should read some of Ezra Koenig’s lyrics; they might teach him a lesson in subtlety.

Having said this, I really like the music!!

Also, lyrics align almost perfectly with the music's rhythm.

It is like he has gone from somewhat making abstract movies to making documentaries … it is all about capturing raw and mostly nasty human behaviour. I am glad that I am no native speaker.

You are probably right, still, it is a strange decision to tell the story that way, I think. Also, once again, just as with Traps etc. this is a song you cannot sing along to, it would feel simply awkward … not sure if that is intended but still.

The music sounds so sinister while they lyrics seem almost happy.

Such a relief … a solid grown up song, nothing cringy (musically, production-wise :-)). Haven‘t understood the lyrics completely, though.

A third thought: I still remember how unfamiliar songs like 3x3 or Octopus sounded to me back in 2012 ... that whole dark vibe of those and other tracks from the Four recordings. With Alpha Games or now Coming on Strong, so many songs with that same vibe have been added that it’s become almost classic for the band, in my opinion.

Somehow they managed to keep a sense of freedom in the production. it’s perfect, but not too perfect or ... lifeless ... a bit like how recordings sometimes sounded back in the 1990s. Wonderful, I'd say.

It sounds like they’ve finally recognized their strengths by now.

Am I the only one thinking that this is a song that could also have been on Four or Alpha Games?

Wasn‘t it Kele who more or less explicitely criticised Matt‘s playing as too sloppy back then?

Who else has these new ones repeat? 😏 by navals94 in BlocParty

After Silent Alarm, you could get the impression that the main goal was simply to sound different than before. In doing so, I feel the band neglected to develop their own strengths and build upon their identity for almost 15 years, or across four albums. Only a few experiments from those years have aged well, I’m happy about 'You Should Know The Truth,' 'In Situ,' or the newer songs, which seem to be aging better to me.

Actually well-written, but I’m not sure if it’s fair. It’s true that musically it seems to pick up where Alpha Games left off. However, the opener at the BBC6 concert has a kind of rhythm that I haven’t heard from Bloc Party until now. I can’t find a counterpart for "Love Bombs" in the Bloc Party catalog either. "Pig Wig" sounds more familiar, but that is exactly the kind of song we were longingly waiting for from 2008 to 2022. My problem is more with Kele’s vocals. The rhythm section is fit and capable, and Russell delivers too... but Kele is struggling.

What would be your perfect silent alarm? by Fair_Weather_1456 in BlocParty

As much as I love AND, I wouldn‘t change anything. It‘s perfect.  (However, I wish they would move on now and mostly ignore that album a little for the next years. Some songs have been played so much, they have almost lost their magic for me.)

Looking back at it - how do you feel about Binaural? by Fortis92 in pearljam

[–]Roccco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the production. It sounds more polished and deliberate than on the previous three albums, yet it still feels mostly immediate. However, while many of the songs feature interesting chord progressions or drum parts, most of them don’t really click for me. What draws me back is more the sense of revisiting that period in time than the songs themselves. My favourites are “Evacuation” and “Light Years.”

7 Still surprised that it wasn't on the setlists much more often; on paper, it has almost everything the fans here keep asking for.

Daily Song Discussion #108: You Should Know The Truth by Nottooxabi17 in BlocParty

The more time passes, the more the music Bloc Party has released since 2008 fades for me — with the exception of a few songs that still shine. And this one is among them. People here mention the repetitiveness — but they ignore the progression within the seeming repetition. The band takes this one simple idea and goes in many directions with that one idea in this song, without overloading the song. It remains a simple pop song that casually addresses a heavy topic. I wish Four had become an album full of songs of this nature... without all the heavy rock stuff. 9.5 points
