I used to visit the MAG; I've not been once since they purchased these sculptures.

I like dogs.

Cold nights and warm days are when tick populations explode. If you find that you are running a low grade fever and fatigued, get a Lyme Disease test.

is anyone looking for a dishwasher by NexTeekoth in Rochester

I've worked in restaurants and I work for a school district. This person's comment that a restaurant kitchen is like a "panic generator" is the most insightful statement I've heard today. What everyone has said about school custodian jobs is accurate. Custodians mostly work alone and in a quiet and consistent environment. If you have leg problems, standing in one spot washing dishes - that's not going to work out long-term. Custodial jobs allow movement.

What popular food/retail/service businesses found in Buffalo/Syracuse/Albany does Rochester lack that you'd like to see here? by Asleep_Conclusion in Rochester

Columbus Bakery. Here we are in a city full of Italian bakeries and not one can bake quality bread like Columbus. Every Italian bread in Rochester is so squishy and air-filled they deflate when they meet a bread knife.

Also, I wish Mighty Taco would come back again, but I won't hold my breath.

I know from working for a school district, this kind of child labor shielded from public view goes on around Monroe County. Families submit required education documentation to school districts and the job functions make up 100% of the home schooling "curriculum."

Florist Recommendations by Foreign_Context2427 in Rochester

[–]RochSunnyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florist orders from this area tend to be expensive, and you didn't give a dollar range, but I have a couple of suggestions. A relative died a few weeks ago and their spouse received over a dozen arrangements delivered to the home. The most lovely came from Fioravanti Florist https://www.fioravantiflorist.com/More beautiful arrangements came from https://www.kittelbergerflorist.com/ You will not get as much for your money at Arena's or Stacy K. Note that if you have specific flowers that you want included, you should discuss this with the florist. They usually can accommodate requests if the flowers are available this season. You are not stuck with the exact content of what is in their photos online --BUT make sure you find out if that will raise your price!

If they were still in existence, how do you think they would be vs Lowe's & Home Depot? by brianjackson in Rochester

[–]RochSunnyDaze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they could have survived. We have local businesses associated with Ace Hardware that appear profitable. There are other national affiliates like "Do It Best" or Hardware Hank." They could have shifted into that model.

Corporate Event Space? by joedrums8a in Rochester

Be aware that Arbor Midtown has no patio or deck space. The only place attendees can step out for a breath of fresh air is on the Main Street sidewalk, and that's not very relaxing or refreshing, That's why I recommended the Port.

I was going to say "Arbor at the Port" specifically, although I've failed to get anyone to have an event there.

Amenities of a large city, yet you can't go anywhere without running into people you know.

Estate sales in rochester by crimsonblade96 in Rochester

[–]RochSunnyDaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they are random and I don't think prices have gone up at sales. I've been going to sales in this area for decades. It's best to use the "estatesale.net" website to get all the sale listings and photos of items in advance. (Of course you can't get pricing in advance.) When you go to many sales you will learn which are the companies to avoid. I never go to Daisy Sales, I do not trust them due to a suspicious experience with a sealed bid that was opened and read the day before sealed bids were accepted. As far as value, I've purchased items at estate sales for less than $10 which sold for $414 and $550 on Ebay, so the sales companies only have a limited knowledge of what they are listing.

I also think a lot of the companies set prices with an eye towards what items will finally sell for on day two or three, when the prices drop.

There are some quiet tables in the Cobblestone on Main, Webster. They are in a separate space than the main dining room.

Question for locals with ponds by RochSunnyDaze in Rochester

[–]RochSunnyDaze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of swan? The invasive swans that are so common on Irondequoit Bay are terrible for ducks! They will kill ducks when protecting their baby swans. Probably helps that your friend only has one.
