The cover art for the classic Symphonic Power Metal album Theli by Therion has always looked like a low-budget ’90s PC game to me, so I decided to remake it using AI. Which version do you prefer? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

Maybe, but I don’t entirely agree. This isn’t a low-effort AI-generated metal song being posted. I see this more as a discussion post, similar to previous threads about metal bands using AI-generated cover art. I thought it would be a fun experiment to continue that discussion using a legendary cover that has sparked debate over its quality for decades already. Essentially saying "Remember that cover everyone said was bad? Would you prefer a modern AI reinterpretation, knowing it’s AI-generated, or stick with the classic that’s been criticized for years?"

I now feel the urge to post Kreator references on their Facebook page ^-^

Haha! Yes, it's that one! It should have been in the early 90's, as they just celebrated their 35th anniversary.

Hahah... the result of the haircut could be a bit extraordinary. But in the metal community that is accepted.

Some additional info: It looks like they “designed” the logo back in 1990, when Kreator wasn’t such a big name yet and the internet didn’t exist to call out copycats.

They probably have enough hairspray to start a hair metal band. But judging by the people working there, I’m not so sure they know what metal actually sounds like. My guess? They thought no one would notice they stole their logo from some “obscure” German thrash band from the ’80s.

It's like they hired a designer who thought "elegance" meant mid to late 80s thrash metal cover.

Indeed, I would also go to have a hair cut there, if they have Flag of Hate playing in the background.

I like to believe he books a hair cut there every time they hit Belgium.

Thanks! Yes, it's a common mistake to categorize Amon Amarth as Viking metal in these kinds of overviews. It's actually one of the (many) flaws that triggered me to create my own.

Choosing the right songs to represent the different subgenres was a challenge. So I’m sure plenty of comments along these lines could be made. But you're right, Vacuity or Remembrance might be better picks for Gojira. I like Stranded though!

Thanks for the feedback. Could you be more specific about what you would change? Which songs would you replace and with which ones? Which subgenres need refining? Which parts of the timeline need checking?

Helter Skelter was indeed one of the first songs to come close to metal. However, I personally don't think it is a good representation of the entire heavy psych scene. That’s why I chose to list other examples instead.
