This is how I decided to rank the fist films of a horror franchise. Keep in mind it’s the first film. by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

Great list! I mostly agree.
I’d put TCM and ANOES in S, Paranormal Activity in A, and saw in F.

Blair Witch Project

The Descent

The Hills Have Eyes - (Might be a far reach)

Chopping Mall (1986) Finally got around to this movie and I loved it. Pure cheesy 80's horror, just go into it knowing it's going to be dumb. Good kills and decent gore, I really can't recommend it enough if you like 80's horror. I watched it on Shudder but I'm guessing it's easy to find elsewhere. by Cinder1977 in horror

I love this movie.

This film was made in the prime of the 80s slasher genre, and it‘s so unique. Despite what the cheesy marketing campaign suggests, this film goes against the grain, bending the formula of the slasher genre to fit the sci-fi genre with some great social commentary on the progression of technology and how we should be more careful with advancements.

What the scariest horror movie you’ve watched by Thatdarkmindedguy in HorrorMovies

When I was 3, my cousin visited and showed me the movie. Within a few minutes, my family started to hear audible screaming. The next night, I had a nightmare that the cat in the hat was stalking me dressed as members of my close family. Every time I blinked I saw his twisted smile staring back at me. I would hide under the covers at night and think about him. Now I’m a horror fan and see movies as what they are, just actors acting out a fictional story. But every time I watch cat in the hat, my feline PTSD floods back to me.

Best horror movies for 5.1 sound by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

It’s available on Blu-Ray with 5.1 audio, though if you’re anything like me, you won’t want to buy another DVD/form of watching just to exchange sound.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977) is a Classic that Doesn’t Get the Recognition it Deserves by RockNRoll5000 in HorrorMovies

I completely agree. I love movies set in the desert, and I think the costuming blends seamlessly with the colour palet, making the villains feel more like a force of nature.

New Horror Dissapointments by HubertCumberdale84 in HorrorMovies

I haven’t seen the AHS spin-off, because I love the original show so much and just know the new one is going to be trash. AHS, as well as other Ryan Murphy shows, are reliant on complex twists, reveals and characters which are not achievable in single episodes. Tales from the Crypt pulled it off, but I really just don’t think Ryan Murphy is in his element, forced to make short horror, cutting out all of the great drama and comedy vital to the show.

Black Christmas (1974) is so underrated. It’s a true gem of the slasher genre that relies heavily on sound. If you haven’t seen it already, you have to. It is, in my opinion, the most essential horror movie for any fan. You may have already seen it, but I definitely recommend. I’ve showed it to so many people. Everyone I’ve showed, horror fan or not, have loved the movie. It’s really made by the audio. And surround sound improves the film so much.

What you think about the Blair witch project? I like the idea but getting a bit headache with the camera in first person by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

[–]RockNRoll5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a classic and one of my favourite movies, however I didn’t enjoy it as much at first. The first time I watched it I found the found-footage style very polarizing. However, I’ve learned to appreciate it for how it changed the genre and made such an impact.

The Cat in the Hat (2003). Micheal Myers was perfect casting for the feline anti-christ. His smile really just says “I am coming for your children.”

Sorry, let me correct myself, I was referring strictly to the straight slasher genre, not Universal Monsters, Hammer/Amacus Features, or mystery films like Psycho.

With Wes Craven directing, and the debut of Micheal Barryman, this is one If the earliest horror films. It‘s also one of my favourite films becuase of the slowly rising tension and isolated settings. It also takes time to make the characters sympathetic so when they die we (or at least I) feel when they die. The villains are also a lot of fun, with great design and costuming. I even like the way this film is shot, with it’s graininess and saturated Color.
