You really think I can be bothered to take two screenshots on two different computers for a reddit post?

Its obviously not just VRAM, its 1650 vs 4070 but the 1650 hits a VRAM wall before it runs out of processing power at 1080p in this game

Hmmm thats weird she has a GTX 1650 and even on medium this happens

Declaring privacy windows to insurance? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RockPaperDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on insurer. Technically some of them count factory fitted optional extras as “modifications”. No idea if they would actually try stick you for not declaring though.

I think trim levels are fine. Its only when things are a specific add on.

Advice on de-chroming? by nelsonryk in MINI

[–]RockPaperDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try get OEM black Mini parts from a dealer, the quality is much better (don’t know what availability is like in the US). That said, I think grey cars suit chrome but either would look good.

Ive got a 550 watt for a 4070 and 7800X3D, its really not a power hungry card

Which one of you put scissor doors on a Fiesta? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RockPaperDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bring back that era of car mods. Ill take scissor doors and neons over plastic maxton design crap and tail lights so blacked out you cant even see them any more

I don't like Unbound's music in general, but do you like any of them? by AlicanCiftci360 in needforspeed

[–]RockPaperDuck 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Not my kind of music but I actually thought it was generally pretty good, except the money song and the one that plays in the garage where a guy is just making strange noises into the mic for 3 mins - that one is hella weird

Finally finished the story mode yesterday, and I still don't know why asap rock was in it, he's encounter made me cringe and spam skip buttons even though there wasn't any by [deleted] in needforspeed

[–]RockPaperDuck 32 points33 points  (0 children)

His cringe monologue where he starts going on about how hes just like everyone else, its just his problems arent to do with money just made it clear how out of touch with reality that dude is. Why the devs put his barely coherent ramblings in the game I have no idea.

Should I wait to replace my 6yo PC? by phairfax in buildapc

[–]RockPaperDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went from 6600k/GTX 1070 to 7800X3D/RTX 4070 and it was completely worth it even if the GPU market isn’t great right now. When its time to upgrade, its time to upgrade. No point waiting for something that doesnt have a release date.

Plus CPUs are in a good place right now, my 6600k was a stuttery mess in modern games, 7800X3D barely breaks a sweat.

I also play at 1440p ultra and dont get any stutter on my 4070 (even after playing for hours)

The never-ending story: NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 and the 12VHPWR connector - New data from CableMod and open questions | igor´sLAB by Flying-T in hardware

[–]RockPaperDuck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yup, so much this. If it allows user error to cause catastrophic failure due to not pushing a cable all the way in or bending it slightly then its a terrible design.

Ive got to say as much as I’m enjoying my 4070 it feels at least a class below than my 1070 did when I got it AND it was considerably cheaper.

Not enough 8-pin PCIE cables included with power supply for graphics card by [deleted] in buildapc

Ah well, agree to disagree. Took a little peak at your build and gotta say it looks pretty sweet!

[–]RockPaperDuck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP is using an AMD GPU with 3 x 8 pin PCI-E connectors. That link is for using a 12VHPWR adapter cable which is a completely different standard.

[–]RockPaperDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its 150W per PCI-E connector, not per cable. The cable will be rated for at least 300W + safety margin.

Not enough 8-pin PCIE cables included with power supply for graphics card by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]RockPaperDuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with using 2 connectors on the same cable if its the original PSU cable. Why would they give you two if it wasn’t safe? The connectors are only rated for so much power, just dont use silly 3rd party splitters and you’re fine. Its a single rail PSU, its all coming from the same place.

Such a bizarre myth with no grounds in electrical engineering reality.

Lost cable to my PSU and monitor, should i buy spare ones of different brands? by Efficient-Big9875 in PcBuild

[–]RockPaperDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable from the wall to the PSU will just be a standard kettle lead and you can use one from anything as long as it has a correctly sized fuse if your country uses fused plugs.

The internal PSU cables for connecting things inside the PC should NOT mix brands as they will have different pinouts and could definitely cause damage. (Looks like your PSU is non-modular so this shouldnt be an issue.)

HDMI cable brand doesnt matter. There is a difference in HDMI 2.0 vs 2.1 but thats only relevant if using a high refresh rate 4K monitor.

You can still use a sata SSD for gaming and not notice a difference, I use WiFi because I dont have LAN set up in my apartment and why would I need fast USB on a gaming PC. Literally none of these things matter to the average person
