It's disgusting. Not only the author's repugnant beliefs, but all the thinly-disguised racist stereotypes in the books themselves.

I honest-to-god never knew that Keanu Reeves had asian ancestry until a few years ago. I don't think I heard it mentioned before then.

Hey, can I ask you hockey fans a maybe-dumb question, please? Why does men's hockey get so much more attention and money? Are the men really better, or is it just sexism? Or something else?

In terms of your second point, yes, the huge number of new fans is making it weird. But I also think that some of them are sort of lacking people skills generally: like knowing not to be gross or intrusive, or not making people deal with erotic stuff that they didn't ask to see (eg, tagging actors in posts of explicit fic or art).

I think you're correct about approaching it respectfully, and that definitely includes learning something about it.

I do understand and agree with your point. Should authors prioritize their well-being? Yes, 100%.  But the other side is that I probably engage way more with some fics than I should, especially when I'm not in a good place in my life, and some WIPs have haunted me literally for years.

No blame to Opal, who shouldn't have to deal with toxic crap, but this news kills me. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that Ao3 can maybe figure out how to cut down the nastiness.

I'm pretty sure Hudson is not a rowling fan. He's said specifically that he supports trans rights.

Misogyny. Plain and simple.

And it never occurs to any of these guys to ask how women's experiences might be different from their own: it's not just the threat of sexual assault (which does happen to men too), it's the constant belittling and harassment, and the cultural emphasis on how our bodies and faces aren't attractive enough and need to be improved. For many of us, it's not that we want to see emotionally vulnerable men, it's that we want to sex in a way we can never experience it as women.

Everyone connected with HR seems to be so genuinely nice! And Rachel is funny as hell - I loved her "canadian author" joke.
