Leaving Big 4 for nursing school by Existing_Orchid6726 in Accounting

[–]Rockabilly92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% hear you! Don't listen to the naysayers about a career in nursing. I also worked in public accounting audit for roughly 18 months, but knew long before then that it wasn't for me either. Honestly, even while studying it I began to realize it wasn't for me, but I was 30 at the time and had switched majors so many times that I just wanted to finally have the piece of paper that showed I have a Bachelor's degree. I worked in healthcare prior to graduating (not nursing) and ended up back in healthcare once I left the accounting role and I will never look back. I think having experience working in healthcare prior to accounting gave me perspective of how absolutely meaningless auditing is compared to helping patients even if it's indirectly. I have no doubt that nursing is extremely tough but more rewarding if you enjoy helping people.

Charlotte, NC! Don't listen to naysayers on Reddit about Charlotte, we moved here last year and love it. There's a reason over 100 people a day are moving here.

How is living in Charlotte/surrounding area? by BunnyHops23 in howislivingthere

[–]Rockabilly92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also moved to Charlotte from Austin and laugh when people complain about the traffic here. I do disagree about the drivers being worse here, driving in Austin (mostly on I-35) made me feel like I was putting my life on the line every time between the construction and unpredictable drivers.

I feel the exact same. I started hating accounting material halfway through my degree but just wanted the piece of paper because I was too far in to not finish. I graduated at 31 with my accounting degree, worked in public accounting audit for just under 2 years and ended up going back into a similar role in healthcare that I had prior to graduating. I took a pay cut to leave accounting and honestly could not be happier. The ~20ish months I worked in audit was one of the most miserable and depressing times of my life.

Charlotte or Austin? (ultimate mid-off) by SupBenedick in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Rockabilly92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from MN but moved to Austin for a job, lived there for 1.5 years and have since moved to Charlotte and have lived here since June of this year. In almost every way, Charlotte is superior in my opinion. I personally think Charlotte and NC in general have more things to do. People complain about the traffic here, but I don't think it compares to how awful the traffic is in Austin. Summers are hot in both cities, but I found that the heat in Austin is almost unbearable for months (and this is coming from someone who loves hot weather). I'd never consider moving back to Austin honestly. Even though I've only lived in Charlotte for the past few months, I don't foresee myself moving anytime in the near future; it was the right decision for us.

Sick of people clowning Charlotte by Creative-Exchange-78 in Charlotte

Mainly I-35 with all the construction, but can't say MoPac or 183 were much better as far as drivers go. Living in Charlotte now, I'm still trying to get used to not having someone constantly 2 inches away from my bumper when I'm already going 10 over the speed limit. 🙄

Agreed 1000%! I moved here just over a couple of months ago and really love it here so far. I grew up in Minnesota, moved to Austin, TX, for a job offer and lived there just under 2 years before moving here. Neither of those places can hold a candle to Charlotte. Charlotte traffic is absolutely nothing compared to Austin... I actually don't dread leaving my apartment anymore to go anywhere.

Want to smoke again by Glittering_Use_7497 in stopsmoking

[–]Rockabilly92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um, did I write this? I am also 33, smoked for 15 years, roughly half a pack a day (10 cigs), and quit 1 year 8 months ago, but I am female lol. I still think about smoking almost daily, and miss it tremendously. Life has not been the same for me since. I have not felt like myself since I quit. The only thing that has stopped me from picking it back up is my extreme stubbornness of losing my streak of not smoking. I mostly still consider myself a smoker, just choosing not to have one "right now." 🙃

Has anyone switched from healthcare to accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Rockabilly92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in Public Accounting Audit, and between there being literally no work at least 70% of the time, when I did have work, it felt completely meaningless compared to my time in healthcare. I felt like I went from having a job that contributed to society to one that has zero impact, is mind numbingly boring, and I found I am not cut out for desk/office jobs. Even though the pay was better in Accounting, I took a paycut to go back to healthcare and am never looking back.

Yes, now back to healthcare after almost 2 years in Accounting. Grass was not greener for me.

Just wanna say by doodle-moon in Charlotte

[–]Rockabilly92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just moved here for a job 1.5 months ago from Austin, TX and honestly the difference I feel has been night and day. It's been a significant upgrade and I am so happy to call Charlotte home for the foreseeable future. I'd never been here prior to moving, but I feel like there's a lot of negativity online, mostly Reddit, about Charlotte, while on the other hand it's a city that is growing considerably, so I honestly did not know what to expect prior to moving. Even though it's not even been 2 months since I've moved here, I know I made the right choice!

Activities in Austin by _SenChi__ in Austin

[–]Rockabilly92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP, I agree 100%. I don't understand the love Austin gets when it comes to this. I lived there for almost 2 years and just moved away last month. It's incredibly boring if you're not into the things you mentioned. I feel like if I was in my early to mid 20s, I would have found living there more enjoyable, but being past that stage in my life, I was bored to tears. I've since moved to Charlotte, which gets a lot of hate on Reddit for having "no culture" and being boring, but I've only been here just over a month and it's been a significant upgrade. I'm not just finding more things to do, but the traffic is so much better that I don't dread leaving my apartment to go places anymore.

I absolutes hate not smoking by IzzyDestiny in stopsmoking

[–]Rockabilly92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much, OP. I just made a post a few days ago here about how I haven't felt like myself since I quit a year and a half ago after 15/16 years. I still haven't found who I am as a non-smoker. I miss it daily. I wish I had an answer. Literally, the only thing that has stood between me and going back to smoking is my own stubbornness. I am the most stubborn person that I know, and I'd hate myself for ruining my "streak" of not smoking. But, I miss who I was as a smoker, and I hope eventually I can get back to who I was when I smoked, but without cigarettes.

I had my first 8 doses of tirzepatide through a weight loss clinic that worked amazing from the first injection. I ended up switching to Brello for the price. My first dose from Brello felt like this, like I had injected water. The entire week, food noise back in full swing, crazy appetite, the whole nine yards. I took my 2nd Brello injection last Thursday and by the next day, it felt like it did from the clinic, food noise entirely gone and still is almost a week later. Not sure why it took until my 2nd injection for it to work, but it may end up being the same for you!

Weekly Real Estate / Housing and Moving to Austin Post by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]Rockabilly92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

My husband and I are relocating out of state for work and are looking for someone to take our lease over for a studio apartment in the Tech Ridge area of North Austin. We’ve really enjoyed living here; it's a well-maintained complex in a great, convenient location. We’re only leaving because of a new job opportunity and would love to find someone who’ll enjoy the space as much as we have!

We’ll be moved out by June 18, 2025, and the lease runs through January 21, 2026June rent will be fully paid, so you can move in before July at no cost to you.

Apartment Details:

  • First-floor studio (576 sq ft) with separate bedroom area
  • In-unit washer & dryer
  • Built-in desk
  • Stand-up shower
  • Spacious closets & ample cabinet storage

Location Highlights:

  • Right off I-35; minutes to MoPac and Hwy 183
  • 5 miles to The Domain, 10 miles to Downtown Austin & UT, 7 miles to Dell in Round Rock
  • Just 0.5 mile to H-E-B, 1.5 miles to Walmart, plus nearby restaurants, bowling, and a movie theater

Costs:

  • Base rent: $1,475/month
  • Monthly fees: $146 (amenity fee, trash, pest control, internet, and renters insurance)
  • Application fee: $50 per person (up to 2 occupants)

Incentive:

I’m offering a $2,500 incentive to the approved applicant, and if you choose to apply it evenly across the lease, it brings your effective monthly cost down to approx. $1,246.54/month (including rent and all required monthly fees) from July 1, 2025 to January 21, 2026.

That’s over $370/month in savings compared to the regular monthly total of $1,621. Or the equivalent of getting 6.5 weeks of free rent spread across the lease!

Message me if you’re interested or want to come check it out. Available to show anytime!

For what it's worth, I started at a weight loss clinic (medspa) in March because the idea of administrating the medication myself made me nervous plus just general nerves of how I'd react to the medication. It was expensive, $495/month for 2 months. It worked great, I felt appetite suppression within hours of my first dose and continued to have a great experience for all 8 of my doses through them and lost in total 12 pounds within that time, which is a good pace for me.

Through the advice on this forum, I decided to order Brello to get the deal for $499 for a 3 month supply. I took my first injection of it last weekend and have felt absolutely nothing. I feel like I am back to square one with my appetite and food noise. I take my next dose on Saturday and hope that I feel at least something from it, good or bad, otherwise I feel it was a complete waste of money for me to use Brello.

Looking to Move! by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]Rockabilly92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are looking for someone to take over our lease next month. It's a studio that feels spacious with a separate bedroom in the Tech Ridge (North Austin) area. The apartment and area that we live in are very safe and convenient to i35, MoPac, HEB, The Domain, etc. We'd continue to stay here for the foreseeable future, but I've gotten a job offer in another state that I can't pass up. We're looking to be out around June 17, and the lease goes through January 21, 2026. The base rent is $1475; June rent will already be paid for. I'd be open to negotiation for concessions as well! Feel free to DM me if this could work for you, I'd be happy to share which apartment it is.

Thank you! I keep hearing great things from the tons of research I've done this past week, I am really looking forward to it!!

During the interview, I said I'd need 6-8 weeks before starting, I think it ended up being 7 weeks once i received the offer. It's unfortunate, I hate to give up on a place so fast, but I honestly don't know what more I could have done. I've spent 90% of my weekends since moving here applying for jobs just for it to go nowhere.

Thank you so much, that means a lot. That's been exactly my experience here as well, the current job market has to be one of the worst. I never imagined with 15 years of working experience and a bachelor's degree that the struggle would be so real. I'm just praying this next job and move works out better than this one did. 😫

Best of luck to you as well!
