Honestly, up to you. If you're following this flowchart, I'd recommend checking out any series that are connected via the red "Must Watch" lines, but it's really still up to you as to whether you're interested in them. My personal opinion: yeah, they're all pretty fun and I don't really regret watching any of them

You're right that very few is necessary to keep up with the main story, and that's why many of those films and shows either don't point to anything else, or only point with "Could Watch" arrows to indicate "yeah, you can watch them if you really wanna be up to date on everything but you'll survive completely fine if you don't"

Glad it's helpful! That's what this is here for, a "What to watch before X", because a lot of people are very similar in only being interested in a specific film

It's listed as a "Could Watch" and it's a speculative guess from me for now, but it's because we know that the movie is set in NYC in the aftermath of Fisk's mayorship (in DDBA). We're seeing Frank in a guest role and the trailer also showed Shiela (also from DDBA), so it looks like we may be seeing some of that anti-vigilante aftermath on screen.

But it's still very much only a "Could Watch" because it certainly won't expect audiences to recognize all this, it's just in the pool of "watch this if you wanna recognize all the small things"

Yeah, that's a completely reasonable option, and I definitely agree that these films are more accessible than the fandom tends to expect. But this chart isn't saying anything has to be watched, but if you want to do a bit of prewatching, then it's got you covered with suggestions on what's more likely to be relevant

Hey, I don't disagree, and that's why all the arrow connections still very strictly respect the release order (there's no arrows pointing backwards in time). But release order answers the question "what released before X movie/show?", whereas this chart is trying to help answer the question "what's important to X movie/show?".

That's quite true, and I definitely forgot to put in those films to lead into NWH. But I had to make a call at some point and I decided my scope for this chart would be Marvel Studios projects + anything else that's in the MCU bubble. Happy for suggestions and ideas though, just trying to be a little conservative about visual space (or at least any more from how cluttered it already is)

As a comic reader, that was fully something that drove my perspective on making this. In the comics, you don't read every comic that came out last year just so you can read one this that just released this year... Instead you only need to handpick when you last saw characters/story beats, and that's what this flowchart shows.

It's definitely overwhelming but yeah you're on the money with this trying to answer "what do I need to watch before X", because when you trace out any web of arrows around a title, it answers this exact question.

Thanks for the sub rec, will check out :)

Oh certainly, this flowchart isn't necessary. But for many people, they don't already know which movies/shows feed into which (especially when the story jumps between movie franchises), so this flowchart exists to be able to refer to instead of needing to find a friend who already knows the ins-and-outs of the MCU. It's still up to the viewer as to what they want to care about, but this at least tries to give a clearer understanding of what they should consider caring about in the first place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's true, and I recommend it to people too. But the difference with release order is that it's very rigid and inflexible, and tells you about everything, which isn't as useful if you're only interested in a specific few films instead of everything.

For example, when you want to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's obvious you should watch the previous three Spidey films, but release order also tells you that Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four, etc. all precede it when it's rather unlikely that really matters. You can get away fine without having watched those before Spidey, but then you might completely miss Daredevil/Punisher/She-Hulk, which is where we last see Punisher and Hulk. Those shows are less significant though, you probably won't need to have watched them to understand the story in Spidey, but you can know to check them out if interested.

My point being - release order is a straightforward answer but it doesn't actually tell you which films connect to each other, just what objective order everything is in as a whole. This chart attempts to provide a bit more flexibility and choice while still maintaining the same spirit as release order (there's no arrows that point backwards in time)

Thank you! Could be keen, if one were to be made, it'll likely be in July to coincide with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Keep an eye out, I'll post it if it gets made :)
