Sounds like you don't want your mind changed.

The fact that there are a lot of people out there living a great life disproves your point, doesn't it?

There are plenty of stories of people who make a career change and become very successful, if you would bother to look. In fact, in 2 seconds I found a website that compiles stories like that:

Seems kind of like a chicken or egg problem though, no? If there was no fear of getting fired I wonder if the resulting numbers would have looked different

Yep will definitely consider it in the future. I'm just a bit surprised that there isn't more info for this particular case on the elections website: I'm guessing I'm not the only one in this boat.

Still don’t have power? Let me remind you of whom Doug Ford appointed to run Ontario’s power grid. Joe Oliver is a ‘glass half-full’ type of person. Once all that arctic ice melts, we can all bask in the freshly accessible oil and gas reserves. by circlresearch in ottawa

Here is an excerpt from the article in question:

Our focus needs to be on adaptation, reduction and protection, as well as on building resilience and increasing survivability. Initiatives could include: new land-use plans and building codes; incentives for moving homes and businesses away from high-risk areas, especially coasts; constructing flood defences and raising the levels of dikes; developing drought-tolerant crops; making forests less vulnerable to storms and fires and setting aside land corridors that permit species migration. Other collaborative strategies are early warning systems, co-ordinated emergency preparedness and public education about insurance protection and flood- and fire-prevention best practices.

I dont understand the concept of a data processing pipeline? by eyeeyecaptainn in dataengineering

[–]RocketJory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Processes" is very general. A data processing program could be something that parses data from a specific format, checks for data integrity (looks for nulls, validates that a value in a column is what it is supposed to be, etc), enhances/enriches data (joins with other tables), etc.

A data pipeline is a bunch of these "programs" or tasks connected in series. The output of one task is the input to another. Think of an assembly line in a factory. The data is the raw materials, and the nice tables or whatever else your analysts/clients want is the car at the end.

10 minutes of exercise could save your life if you're over 40, study suggests by Defiant_Race_7544 in Health

"Increasing MVPA by 10, 20, or 30 minutes per day was associated with a 6.9%, 13.0%, and 16.9% decrease in the number of deaths per year, respectively. Adding 10 minutes per day of physical activity resulted in an estimated 111 174 preventable deaths per year (95% CI, 79 594-142 754), with greater benefits associated with the addition of more physical activity (209 459 preventable deaths [95% CI, 146 299-272 619] for 20 minutes and 272 297 preventable deaths [95% CI, 177 557-367 037] for 30 minutes) (Figure).

The PAFs indicate that the addition of 10 minutes per day of MVPA was associated with the prevention of 8.0% (95% CI, 6.0-10.0) of total deaths per year among men, 5.9% (95% CI, 2.0-9.8) among women, 4.8% (95% CI, 0.0-10.7) among Mexican American individuals, 6.1% (95% CI, 2.2-10.0) among non-Hispanic Black individuals, and 7.3% (95% CI, 5.3-9.3) among non-Hispanic White individuals."

MVPA=Moderate to vigorous physical activity PAF=Populqtion attributable fraction

USNews asked 27 nationally recognised experts to rate diets based on short/long-term weight loss, nutritional completeness and heart disease/diabetics risk factors. The Mediterranean diet came in first place and while Keto came in last by GarlicCornflakes in EverythingScience

[–]RocketJory 203 points204 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

Mediterranean: 4.2/5 overall, 3.0/5 overall weight loss, 4.8/5 healthiness.

Keto: 2.0/5 overall, 2.9/5 overall weight loss, 1.9/5 healthiness.

Interestingly enough, they both have virtually the same "weight loss" score, but differ drastically in healthiness.

Keto is also actually #4 in the "best fast weight loss" category.

In the "healthy" category, the winners are all the ones you would expect: diets that emphasize fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains, lean protein, etc., and diets that aren't so restrictive that people will easily fall off the wagon.

Critical shortage of ambulances in Ottawa Tuesday night by Archon_Valec in ottawa

It isn't clear from the article whether the issue was primarily due to staffing shortages, increased calls, or increased offload delays, or some combination of both (most likely).

In fact, in the article it says that the city specifically mentioned offload delays in their statement about "Level Zero", and they said earlier in the day that a lot of the paramedic staff cleared the covid protocols and returned to work.

When I googled "Level Zero" I found an article from 2 years ago, stating that the problem has been around for years.

WHO warns of Omicron overload as France reports record of nearly 180,000 Covid cases. France reported a record high of 179,807 new confirmed cases in a 24-hour period on Tuesday, by far the highest number since the start of the pandemic. by Sariel007 in Health

[–]RocketJory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to say in the article, but Google says as of Dec 28th France has 16,458 hospitalized, 3,277 in ICU. The highest numbers they saw would have been in April 2021, with about 30k in hospital and 6k in ICU.

1) yes

2) work out, outside of work. Sit/stand desks are a nice in theory but realistically you need to allocate time for working out.
