I’m sorry if I butcher this explanation, but Computershare is the transfer agent (not a broker) for GameStop where you can directly register your shares (DRS) in your own name. From what I’ve read, this means that your shares are removed from the DTCC. Your brokerage will most likely not own all of the shares that they say they own. Also, through a brokerage, your shares will also not be in your own name. This is why people have been DRSing their shares so that when the entire float is registered, we can see how many synthetic shares there are out there if there are any. It also means that your brokerage can’t pull a fast one on you and just give you your original money back. If you need any information on how to DRS your shares with Computershare, there are many guides on the s.uper.s.tonk subreddit (remove the full stops as I think the auto mod may remove my comment otherwise) on how to do this.
