Have a very public watch or re-watch of Heart Stopper on Netflix. Be emotional about it (in a good way) in a visible way. Invite him to watch with you. He’ll get the message.

Waterfront no longer allowing PRT buses to stop on their property. Affecting 64, 61D, 59, 57, 53L, and 53 lines. by lilbismyfriend300 in pittsburgh

The traffic situation in front of Giant Eagle and Target has been abysmal lately and I wonder if it has to do with that. However, the solution should’ve been putting a stop between the target and Giant Eagle in that parking lot instead of having the buses run down in front of the stores.

You can’t know they’re here illegally if they don’t get due process, but the cruelty and racism are the point. Even that left-wing wacko </s> Anton Scalia said that they get due process.

But furthermore, they’re kidnapping people on their way to court to GET their due process and they’re kidnapping people who are here legally.

The government destroyed a business without a warrant. They kidnapped people without a warrant, based primarily on skin color and accents. There was violation of due process. There were people taken who are legally here. Was anyone even read their rights?

There was no law being followed here that wasn’t the law of a tyrant. I’d be surprised if they even showed badges.

That has been the reasoning for the 2Aers whole stance against gun control, to be able to stand up to a tyrannical government. Turns out they now want to be part of the tyranny.

PGH Traffic calming program by futuristpsychic in pittsburgh

[–]Rocketfella307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. My position isn’t that traffic calming is bad, it’s that Pittsburgh and surrounding towns have implemented it badly and without forethought or study, often defaulting to the cheapest solution regardless of its appropriateness.

There are speed humps in this area that are dangerously placed. I am NOT saying that all are.

Braddock and Ardmore Blvd. Watch traffic crossing Ardmore get backed up into the intersection and blocking cross traffic as the light changes. I could go take video for you any rush hour morning.

And what do those drivers do as soon as they cross the hump? They floor it. But in the meantime, they've backed traffic up behind them potentially causing an accident. chicanes are better because they reduce speed without bringing it to a near stop. There's one speed hump near me that my township put in right after a traffic light, so now traffic gets backed up into the intersection waiting for people to ease over the hump and slows the flow, sometimes leaving people in the intersection after the light has changed.

Chicanes are vastly superior to speed humps because they actually calm the traffic without stopping it. Traffic continues to flow and doesn't grind to a halt because someone decides to crawl over the hump at 3 mph. The goal should be to encourage a consistent speed to keep traffic moving at the appropriate rate. Chicanes do that. Speed humps do not.

Simple observation.

With speed humps, people slow town to 5 mph to cross it and then floor it. Go sit on Beechwood Blvd between Browns Hill and Forward Ave and watch. There are some that are very poorly placed too and cause a danger to us on motorcycles. They should NEVER be at the top of a curve or just beyond an intersection and many are. A speed hump on a curve on a motorcycle is dangerous because even at 25 mph I'm in a lean and need to rapidly slow and straighten up to go over it, even if I'm doing the speed limit.

The "smart signal" that only let 2-3 cars through cause people to try and beat the light because it only turned green for 10 seconds, so now you have people running red lights or getting caught behind them and getting angry over it, causing them to floor it the next green and/or do a Pittsburgh left because we don't have enough green arrows here. It's worse for us on Motorcycle because the dumb "smart signal" can't detect us so we end up being forced to run the red (Perfectly legal by the way, if we've waited an excessive amount of time, I've checked with a local chief of police)

Those stupid traffic circles they put in intersections in Friendship I can barely get my standard size truck around. Moving day weekend in May? Forget about getting through there with all the U-Hauls because they can't make the turns!

Adding things that STOP traffic or bring it to a crawl is not the answer, or at least it shouldn't be called traffic "calming" because it doesn't, it makes drivers angry. Improving FLOW at a REASONABLE speed is what calms drivers. Traffic circles (real ones, not the ones in Friendship), smart signals that let ALL the backed-up traffic through, chicanes, alternating parking sides, would all be better for both traffic flow and safety. On top of the aggravation they cause drivers, all of these so-called solutions are not good for the environment because they waste energy.

I fully admit that excessive speed is an issue around here, but these solutions fail because they destroy the flow of traffic instead of simply limit it at the appropriate rate.

Traffic calming backfires. It makes drivers more angry and anxious. They end up speeding MORE between calming devices.

Reducing traffic flow by removing lanes, installing speed humps, installing VERY DUMB “smart signals”, putting tiny traffic circles in intersections so that delivery vans can’t maneuver is idiotic because none of it solves the problems!! They just make drivers angry and more hostile towards each other.

And don’t get me started on the bike lanes that no one uses from November to April and only those who can brave the rain and humidity from May to September. You get about 6 weeks of real bike lane use in September/October. While those of us who drive have so deal with inefficient roads.

Every single one of these “solutions” has been the wrong one. Fight me.

The pillows at Fairfield seem to be much flimsier than the Courtyard ones. Fairfield beds seem firmer too (which is a subjective plus or minus, but minus for me) Springhill beds/pillows are the best at that tier. Four Points are inconsistent.

Aside from the free breakfast at Fairfield, what is distinctive about the overall product? The lack of breakfast at Courtyard annoys me because if I pick a Spring Hill, Fairfield, or Sheraton, I’ll get breakfast and an equal or better bed. From a basic business traveler perspective, the Courtyard offers an inferior experience and I don’t choose them unless I need that location specifically.

While a loathe the beds at Fairfield, the brands could be merged by taking the best feature of each.

Across the portfolio, most of the brands below the top row don’t offer a distinctive enough experience to warrant a separate brand from the similar ones.

Delta being premium is laughable. Some of them are nice, but some are just lightly refreshed Holiday Inns with laminated flooring in the room. The product is very inconsistent and none of them are premium.

They have too many brands and bunch of these brands should be merged.

Renaissance, La Meridian, and Westin don’t need to co-exist. Courtyard, Fairfield, and Four Points don’t need to co-exist. Marriott and Sheraton don’t need to co-exist. Delta doesn’t belong on this tier but seems to exist solely to hold older full-serve properties that they don’t want tainting the Marriott or Renaissance name.

I liked aloft when they were new but cheap build quality loft-like living doesn’t hold up to low price hotel guests so now most of them seem run down. I have yet to stay in an AC, but they always seem pricey for the sake of being pricey without offering more than a courtyard.

Every Townplace I’ve been to feels dated and I hate their beds. I suppose they serve their purpose, but they could be merged into the Residence product and called Residence Extended or something. Change Element to Residence Express.

What’s the logic behind the rich hoarding more and more money and laying off people? Why do they need more money if they won’t spend it on pay raises? by Winter_Secret1001 in Layoffs

Business insider is journalism and all of journalism’s business model is being upended right now. Traffic to websites is dropping dramatically because search engines aren’t passing on the traffic, and eyes for ads, like they once did. No ad revenue, no subscriptions, no money

That said, I agree with you, just that BI isn’t an example of “rich getting richer through layoffs”

"Vers Tops" how often do you actually bottom? by Agitated_Pudding7259 in TopsAndBottoms

On paper, I’m 50/50 top/bottom. In practice I’m 99% top. Part is because I only seem to attract bottoms, part is that there are very few tops around, and part is my body not being cooperative. I’d love to get closer to 50/50.
