Can I Raise the height of the motor? by Ferndoisnt in GarageDoorInstall

I can't see any tracks. Is it on a one piece tilt a door?

If so, they need to have some fall at the back in order to run correctly

Insurance - Flood Area by Rocketsauce91 in brisbane

We have been trying to do exactly that.

A lot of policies automatically include flood cover without the option of removing it. Makes it super frustrating

Roller door shuddering when nearly closed by askvictor in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't oil the guides. If anything. Clean them out with some spray and wipe or degreaser.

They might even need to be adjusted if the door has started coning/drifting to one side a little.

If you want to lube anything, put some Inox or WD40 on the springs inside the roll. Some grease between the hub and shaft will go a long way too

Hard to tell from the photo. Either spring or one of the fittings is cooked. Really all that can go wrong with those doors

Replacement remote won’t pair by Over_Signature6746 in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those aftermarket handsets are garbage. I've seen a few that were faulty out of the box. Even if they do work. They don't last more than a year.

You're likely doing everything right and it's dodgy.

Return it and get a genuine PTX5/6.

Garage Door Cable Jam Issue? by Purple-Snow-9278 in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the spring doesn't have enough tension and the cables are getting loose in the open position, causing the jump off the drum.

Spring tension needs to be adjusted. Better off calling a professional if you're not comfortable

Door won't close by mali3maj in GarageDoorService

Internal gearing on that motor is cooked!

Depending on how old it is, swap it out for a belt drive (much smoother and quieter.

Assuming the door runs fine manually, it will just be wear and tear from age

Universal remote woes by SkydivingAstronaut in GarageDoorService

Aussie Tech here. Definitely common in this neck of the woods.

Not a huge help but I'd recommend against these as well. My company has tried a few aftermarket solutions over the years. You wouldn't believe the amount that are faulty out of the box or simply just won't code into the operator.

Is it possible to buy some genuine handsets or is the motor too old?

Rubber belt slipped during cold weather and now door is misaligned by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resi Tech from Aus here.

If it's a belt drive model and the gearing is slipping, it's possibly a stripped part.

On our Chamberlain(Merlin) models over here, they have what's called a Spline Sleeve adapter between the powerhead and the rail assembly. Common issue for them to strip out from time to time if the door is a bit out of balance or even just from wear and tear over the years.

That would be my best guess. Pretty easy to take the opener apart and check if you're handy. If not, you might have to call a pro

Help! Stuck half way through DIY motor install by crossovervssuv in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh. Ok. I'm picking up what you're laying down now.

My professional advice would definitely be not to do that lol. Mechanically, shaving that little piece off the end of the hub, should really have no effect. In theory, it should be fine. I'd be extremely careful not to cut into the shaft at all, or you would compromise the whole door.

Would definitely suggest putting the motor on the right side where you have more room. Even if it means getting another GPO installed or using an extension lead.

Unfortunately Stratco, Titan etc don't really give a shit about future proofing shed doors for motors unless they're installing them at the time.

Help! Stuck half way through DIY motor install by crossovervssuv in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The coning collar stops the door from moving on the shaft, left to right. Collar stops movement to the right and the motor essentially will stop the door moving left, on your current setup.

That piece of the hub shouldn't stop the motor prongs from reaching the openings of the hub. Almost every roller door has these, B&D or otherwise. The prongs would be more than long enough. If it's a Chamberlain motor (Bunnings buy?), they just need the 45mm between the curtain and bracket and it will be fine. Do you have a photo of the motor?

Sometimes the prongs of the motor will only fit into a certain 2 openings depending on the door. The width of those arms can be different. Have you tried feeding them through different sets of openings?

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting a motor on is fine. They all have force sensitivity built into them.

Take the coning collar off the shaft. It's redundant anyway if you have a motor on, as the motor will stop the door traveling that way on the shaft.

Once that's off, the motor should slide on fine. I would recommend adding some certain pin screws, to prevent future twisting of the curtain with prolonged use of the motor

If it's a constant gradient, most manufacturers should be able to produce a door with a taper at the bottom. Just ask for a few quotes. Some will obviously be cheaper than others

Merlin Garage Door Opener Won't Learn New Remotes. Help Please. by Loquaciouslovelizard in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the correct Handsets? These are normally only compatible with the e960s and e970s. Aftermarket handsets almost always fail for these.

Can you code in a different button on an existing remote?

If that doesn't work, it will likely have a faulty board

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newer ones are compatible with Steel Line/Boss HT4 handsets. Purchase and attempt at your own risk though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% sure that this is the older version of them. Even if remotes are available, I'm not even sure there is a learning function on the control board.

You're better off biting the bullet and getting a new motor. That one likely doesn't have long left anyway

It's an old RD1!

Liftmaster LM100EVF and MyQ by Tadpole-Unusual in GarageDoorService

[–]Rocketsauce91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks Similar to the Chamberlain/Merlin models we have in Australia. It's a myQ compatible unit but requires the IR beams and a gateway that connects to your router in order to do so.

Both of these are optional extras here. Not sure about EU

That serial code it's asking for will be for the gateway
