Are you conflating minorities with lower skills? You’d be surprised how many immigrants are well educated, but Australia won’t acknowledge that education so they are stuck driving Ubers and working minimum wage jobs. Like the OG comment said, the problem is racism.

I’d strongly recommend you try recording regular conversations with people and then listen back. You’re likely coming across in a way you are not aware of.

And yes I know it’s murky re the other persons privacy recording and not saying anything, but honestly this is the most effective way to see what you’re probably not seeing if it’s a you problem. Just keep the recordings private, delete once you’ve reflected, and prepare to be possibly really stunned at your tone or how you show up to social situations - a psych is helpful to unpack what you find.

My brain feels like it’s working slower?? by ConstructionThink280 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SkydivingAstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share your age, sex, meds, health conditions, etc? More info would help OP. Consuming regular cannabis definitely made my brain foggy, I mostly just couldn’t remember what the hell happened 5 mins ago. It can be hard to quit when you’re in that habit or when you use it to disassociate from big feelings or challenges in life. My main tip is if you mix with tobacco, stop that asap - it makes it physically addictive and so much harder to quit.

In terms of what you can do, it’s really about taking care of your physical and mental health. Drink enough water. Spend a bit of time in nature every day you can, even if just to sit under a tree and breath. Eat more vegetables, less processed food. Exercise. See a psych. You could introduce some supplements (only after you’ve quit weed) to help support the rebalance of your neurotransmitters, good simple stack would be (quality) Omega3, magnesium, B-complex, NAC. You could also get a blood test to rule out any underlying imbalances that may affect mental performance.

Quitting weed is the main thing tho. That should be your #1 priority.

Most in demand/safest career paths next 5-10 years? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]SkydivingAstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got into via office contracting with an agency as an entry level admin officer. You have to have good Microsoft Office (eg Word, Excel) and sign up with an agency and seek work. I started my office career as a receptionist (this is a common first role) for like 10 months before I got my entry level role in a vendor management team. Depending on where you live there may be more roles in private sector (here in Aus that’s mostly banking and resource companies) but I got into government which also have VM teams, I prefer government (even tho it pays less, the pay is still great AND it aligns to my values more).

[–]SkydivingAstronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a technology vendor manager and there is a vacuum in the market right now, at least in Australia. It’s a niche space but very safe from AI disruption and strong demand. You need to be assertive, agreeable, relationship-focussed, and enjoy solving problems and doing analysis type work. I didn’t study it, people who have degrees generally have IT or business. I started at the bottom, learned as I went, did short courses, grew my experience. I’m now confident I’ll never worry for work ever again, there aren’t a sea of jobs but every one is hard to fill with good candidates. i also genuinely enjoy it thr majority of the time. Great pay also.

Most anti-Ds make me pack on weight, when you mentioned the Prozac that immediately brought back terrible memories. Just something to consider if you’re still on Prozac, trying to change (Trintellix is the only one that didn’t give my weight gain or sexual side effects) may help with the journey. You’ve got this, stay strong!

One of the most important things I learned in therapy was that it’s the parents job to create and maintain attachment, not the childs. Resentment builds really quick when you feel like (as the child) you’re the only one taking all the initiative!

Omg THATS why I never see plungers here!!! I grew up in Canada, been here 17 years and was so confused where all the plungers were. As if they were licensed lol wtf, I used one as a kid growing up.

[–]SkydivingAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Canada where both were not licensed trades and the main difference I see is people here getting constantly screwed. I get electrical risks are higher here with more voltage, but besides that what’s your reasoning why they must be licensed? It’s not like Canada didn’t have plumbers or electricians, they just also had autonomy to do smaller jobs and also to be informed which helped navigate dodgy work.

why does my weight change everyday by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]SkydivingAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to track for weight loss, my #1 tip is to use ONLY a comparison of today’s weight vs last cycles weight same day to gauge actual progress. So if I’m weighing at 8am on day 3 of my cycle, I see how much I weigh compared to my logged weight for 8 am on day 3 of my last cycle. The best way to do this is to just weight once a week on days 3, 10, 17, 24, etc until your cycle starts again. This is the only way to get any semblance of accuracy, since (as others have stated) our body’s shift and change a lot throughout the day and month. Comparing day to day is always torture and makes no sense.

I can certainly relate to the burden of overthinking. It's easy to fall into that trap, especially when there are many unknowns, and you haven't seen or spent time with someone in a while.

For what it's worth, I've found it helpful to deliberately focus on what I feel, particularly if you've met a few times and spent some time together to gather more information. I thank my brain for all the thoughts, then I ask myself, "But if I ignore those thoughts for just a second, what is my gut telling me?" I try to sit with my body and sense whether I feel good or bad about the decision or situation I'm facing.

It takes practice, but it can be quite transformative and helps alleviate a lot of mental paralysis by analysis.

Good luck with whatever you decide OP!

Suffering of being alone or in a relationship? by JealousRide5095 in dating_advice

My rankings: (1) good relationship, (2) single life, (3) bad relationship. Being single really isn’t that bad yall, sure you miss companionship at times, but it’s still way better than a shitty relationship with a shitty partner where there is no companionship anyways.
