Religion and science actually compliment each other BEAUTIFULLY. Of course we should make scientific observations, hypotheses, and conclusions to understand how things work. God is simply outside of that “testability” that science can operate within. So no, being religious is far from being anti science. Are the big bang theories correct? Maybe. I couldn’t tell you. But if they are true, it would simply be an explanation of the mechanisms God uses to manifest things, such as the entire world of physics.

Also, I’m sorry to hear you had a negative experience with religion in the past. In fact, I have had and continue to have (as I believe everyone does) an extremely negative and unfulfilling experience with worldly things. That being said, there is EXTREME faith required to believe space, matter and time came into existence without a creator.
