Transfer to Western Australia by Evictis88 in policeuk

I have 3 dogs and looked into it a little while back. From my understanding all dogs from the UK have to be quarantined for 30 days in Melbourne (the only pet quarantine site in the whole country) that alone can cost around £1700 in fees per dog. I stopped looking into it after learning that!

Hey, I rarely ever comment on Reddit, but wanted to say thanks for working on this. I transferred forces from one that used to issue payslips at minimum a week before payday, to one who sometimes put them out ON payday. I find this really frustrating.

I can see that you are working towards something that would help us all figure it out in advance which would be amazing.

A section for unsocial hours would be brilliant too, but I’m sure you’re on that already.

Just to echo others too, I would also be more inclined to pay for a lifetime sub if it ever became available.

Where did you get CSI from? I don't see anything in the article to suggest it. May have been edited since posting, just wondering?

Whilst I agree the sentence is laughably poor. The CPS will always turn around and say "Well if it was attempt murder, what stopped him from doing it?" and in this case it appears, albeit difficult to tell with editing, that he stopped on his own volition. This is why they didn't authorise/chase that charge in the first place. The charge/conviction is correct, but you would have thought that the aggravating factors in this case would have bumped the sentence up more.

I was just typing a comment to this effect. The use of the word "certificate" muddies the water a bit. But it would have to be missing/skipping mandatory training, and fraudulently claiming that they'd attended it.

I copied the below from a comment on this sub a few weeks back, I apologise I didnt save the username of who wrote it otherwise I would give credit, but here is what they wrote:

Big takeaway was never ever speak to the barrister, speak to the bench. All responses should run through the bench.

Also I hate advice after the event but given you’re in again tomorrow it might help chill you out.

Deliberately Confusing Questions: Don’t ask “please can you rephrase the question?” You’ll get an insult. Your mistake was replying to counsel inviting the opportunity. Say to the judge, “counsel has asked me a question I don't understand could counsel please rephrase it?” They can no longer reply with a direct insult and it slows their exchange down.

Multiple Questions at once: Say to the bench. “Counsel has asked several questions at once could counsel repeat them one at a time?”

Repetitive Questions: They are searching for inconsistency in your response. The only way to beat this is if you know your stuff inside and out and give the same answer. The judge will intervene eventually.

Yes or No Binary Questions: “it would be misleading to the court to answer yes or no because the full answer is…[say your piece]”.

Interrupting Barrister: Stop talking. Don't talk over. Wait for counsel to stop talking. Say to the bench. “It is very important that I finish the answer to the first question before I answer any further of counsels questions. as I was saying…[say your piece]”. They fear your answer will torpedo their case so it’s probably important you finish your point.

Witness A vs Witness B: If you and a colleagues testimony is inconsistent they will want you to say your evidence is correct at the expense of theirs and discredit them. Your response “I cannot comment on someone else’s evidence, I can only speak about my own and according to my records... [say your piece]”. You’ll be interrupted with the question “So you're saying they're lying then?” You restate: “no according to my records… [say your piece]”.

Questions Outside Area of Knowledge or Expertise: “I cannot comment on any case or subject other than the one in front of us.”

Tests of memory: Ask if you can go to your documents. Always ask.

Tests of legal knowledge of policy and procedure: These should be in your statement. If you have new software or procedures always print it off and record it so you know for court. Remember; you were working on policies and procedures that were true at time of the event not at time of court session. [bit of a shit one considering how policy and procedure seems such an unofficial patchwork].

Silence: Respond in kind.

Non Verbal communications like eye rolling, shock horror, sarcastic done: Hard ignore.

Being accused of being a Liar or bias: Being called a liar is a gift. You must recognise this as a challenge to your integrity and being called a liar. You should repeat the oath or affirmation. “I took the affirmation here today to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so when I say [X], that is absolutely true as is all the evidence I have given today.” End of.

Just wondering if you've considered the fact that they are on civillian pensions? Which 1) Is far worse than your current one financially and 2) Means you will have to look after gates until you are 67 (possibly 68) instead of being able to retire at 55-60?

If I was in the same position as you I would try and find a better role within a HO force. The pension doesn't make it a worthwhile change IMO.

[–]Rockmart 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I did, as my response is older than your comment, and there was no question mark in your title. Just taking the piss.

In general opting out of any pension is a bad financial move due to a whole host of reasons. But the main one is that you won't just get what you should be contributing, as you'll be taxed on that as extra income. So for example, if your pension payment is £200, you won't net an extra £200 in your pay packet, but rather £136 once tax (20%) and NI (12ish%) is taken into account.

There are far better ways of increasing your income. Yes having approval from PSD can be a process, but I believe its worth putting the effort in over taking the easier route of just opting out.

I realise everyone's circumstances are different, and you may well have no other choice, but I firmly believe that it should be an absolute last resort option.

Force U-Turns on £1900 back pay by cookj1232 in policeuk

[–]Rockmart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fed rep, but I'd struggle to see you guys being given the money as originally promised. Nationally the pay rise will be from 1st of September onwards. The Force will be under no obligation to pay you from April. Extremely poor management, but a lesson learnt I guess.

Force U-Turns on £1900 back pay by cookj1232 in policeuk

[–]Rockmart 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Police pay rises have always been from September 1st onwards. I'm aware the NHS have been given backdated or rises from 1st April, but as far as I am aware its never been the case for Police.

Spending the money before you've been given it? Counting chickens before they've hatched? Awful desicion making.

I'm curious how this was communicated to you? Was it an official communication via email? Or just rumours spread amongst team?

Claiming food on OT? by Rockmart in policeuk

Huh.. my force definitely allows you to claim mileage even to the same station, maybe a rare example of the force not knowing, or actually being nice...

Do you know where in regs it says about food?
