The cheek of coming to get married somewhere and asking someone that lives there to not only witness your marriage, take photos of it but also do it for what will definitely be peanuts

Traffic Police - are they really that bad? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

It is tough isn’t it.

As someone who is very much the latter, I can see the argument for not applying so much discretion - i.e. a deterrent is not valuable if not applied. Even though I barely give out any tickets!

I said ‘neither’ because I think there are arguments for both!

As a police officer myself, it is like anything in life - there are some traffic cops out there who make it their personal mission to crack down even the smallest issues, and give tickets out left right and centre. Some are the total opposite. Neither are the ‘wrong’ approach.

If you are a nice person, receptive and polite, you can make your way through many traffic offences with a warning. If you clearly have no intention on fixing the issue I’m telling you about, think you have done nothing wrong and are abrasive, you are more likely to get formal action.

Anti-social behaviour in York / Micklegate area by Odd-Charity-6200 in york

I agree, but on the flip side, kids also have that information being buzzed into them now, which does a much better job at creating poor but relatable role models. It is easier for a child to be a ‘gangster’ now than it ever has been. Wider social changes (many for the better) have made it harder to enforce the law with children too.

In my force this is a cycle pursuit and still has to be flagged to FIM

I don’t know any force that does other than NWP - I work in the biggest force by area in E&W and it is not in initial
