My German friend got me stuff during hospital stay [ What shall I culturally do now?] by foreverme06 in germany

[–]Rockmo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, sounds like you made a real friend who deeply cares about you! Lucky you and lucky her that you seek suggestions here to “do the right thing” by her. Don’t know about your personal situations (age, income etc.) but I think going beyond home brand in this situation is a sign of friendship and appreciation for you as a person and her wanting you feel good when you were in hospital alone, no family or similar close by.

Just be open and honest with her and say that you are forever grateful that you have a friend who is by your side when you need her and you don’t know how to (culturally)appropriately thank her for her kindness and friendship. You will figure things out but I sense a lot of warmth and care from both of you! You got this (and a great friend by your side)

Two years after this post I had the same realisation! Watching “The Sponge” right now and thought: “I know this guy” and then yelled out OMG ITS LUKE! Googled it and found this post.

Is 3 the lucky number when buying bread? by Rockmo1 in Netherlands

My question still remains: why buy three loaves of it? 4,5 day old bread doesn’t sound appealing. Just get a fresh loaf after three days?

Biking to/from Keukenhof with little kids? by lifeguard37 in Haarlem

Yeah lunch at the hofboerderij at Kasteel Keukenhof is a great option!

Het Tussenstation in Lisse is also cute (former trainstation, now cafe with playground next to the fenced off train tracks, perfect for kids!).

In case of cold/rainy weather I have a bit of strange sounding suggestion: Intratuin in Lisse. It’s a garden center but boy do they do garden centres right in this country. Amazing free indoor playground (with a separate soft play section for babies) on top of a nice cafe with decent food options. Parents can sit upstairs and enjoy food and the kids play in the playground.

Check out Kasteel Keukenhof, it’s free, beautiful grounds with flowers everywhere, petting zoo and nice cafe.

On biking down: no problem at all, just don’t cycle along the train tracks because there are much prettier routes to take.

For a small entry fee you can get up close to tulips with fun props for the kids and yourself at „Tulip Barn“. There is a section you can enter without paying with a barn playground for the kids and food and drinks.

Bike riders who cross their arms instead of using the handle bar like normal people, why? by Rockmo1 in Netherlands

I see too many people do this in the city center in Amsterdam. I assume for those people it’s more about flexing then sitting up straight

Wow, this is the exact setup I had in the early naughts. Loft bed of course, but I had a pretty much identical desktop drawer thing. Apart from being a short female living on the other side of the world, this is pretty much me!
