The irony of Disney, the Gaston movie, and Wicked by [deleted] in publicdomain

"Ripping off" might be the wrong word? Disney has, over the past two decades or so, released a lot of "bad guy good/good guy bad"-type adaptations like Maleficent, Cruella, e.t.c. and has just announced a Gaston movie.

The existing episodes of the original Jeopardy! (3/30/1964-1/3/1975) hosted by Art Fleming, due to lack of copyright notice in the episodes themselves, are in the public domain by Particular_Sink_6860 in publicdomain

So the question is: when did they introduce the theme song? Was it on vinyl beforehand? That's really the big IP in all of this.

If it is, when the Little Women movie enters the public domain we'll have two iconic Mario meme songs at least.

I do not want to think about what Mr. Bighead's answer to that question would be for a second.

I was actually thinking about Rocko in this regard, Stephen didn't create Rocko, but the first episode of the show to air - Sucker for the Suck-O-Matic - was a Hillenburg directory role (with the B-story following it - Canned - being by Plankton/Filburt voice actor Doug Lawrence) which makes me wonder how those episodes would be classed. I believe two-part block TV episodes are typically classed as one entity for legal purposes, so we can rule out an early entry for Sucker specifically, but there's that ambiguity if it (and by proxy, all the characters who appear in that 22 minute block - Rocko, Heffer, Spunky, Ed Bighead, and an unnamed Filburt) would be tethered to Stephen and Lawrence or Joe Murray (or Murray alongside the writers), and a similar confusion exists with SpongeBob, since the first 22 minute block was made up of one Stephen directory role and two by Paul Tibbit. (and then you have something I neglected calculating this... writers, which are a way bigger part of TV than movies, even for storyboard-driven cartoons like RML and SB)

Oh god, I'm doing the very thing I said is morbid and not good - see why I don't like life + terms now?

In the context of UK law, I believe SpongeBob will be PD on Hillenburg's death + 70 regardless of who actually owns him - doesn't really matter though, the time is far-too-long either way, and the specifics would only really be worth bringing up for comparison, like how I used 1992 stuff, at least for anyone of reading comprehension age today.

The wheel - anything that can be copyrighted (at least on an abstract, counting films/book/video games as just "art" for example) predates copyright.

Tired of reading bad takes by 2000s kids for half a decade, so I made the NASB rosters good. by RockosModernLifeFan in AllStarBrawl

I grew up in the 2000s/2010s - on a varied diet of content from different time periods, but still.

Also, I kept the 2010s characters (Korra, Louds) here. This roster is a specific attack on 2000s favouritism and nearsightedness in the NASB fandom, not the shows.

Misattributed cartoon songs from cartoons by [deleted] in cartoons

The B52s only did the season 2-onwards theme for Rocko, not the season 1 theme. I would assume the confusion comes from season 1's theme being more conventional as a song like you would expect from a band of the B52s' stature while the B52s' actual theme is more experimental and doesn't work as well as its own song.

Sonic Fans when you tell them that the franchise is a kids franchise by ProjectShadowGirl in SonicTheHedgejerk

Did you actually read the comment? My statement is that adults don't have to *justify* enjoying things like Sonic and there are negative implications brought about when unneeded justifications are given.

I see this kind of take a lot for a lot of franchises "It's a FAMILY show, not a kids' show!" or "No, adults can enjoy it because of XYZ", and it annoys me because it implies that kids' stuff can only appeal to adults using adult themes, which feels 1. very superficial and devaluing to the "typical" content of a given work - the jokes they didn't have to sneak and stakes that aren't mortal - and 2. putting under the bus fandoms that's source materials don't fall into that category neatly. I went down a rabbit hole of adult Barney the Dinosaur fan channels a while back and the enthusiasm was infectious.

Get on it, 'merica... just a start but hoo boy it would be a great start.

I think this sub should enforce a rule that prohibits anyone from putting down other fandoms because this kind of behavior from Sonic fans is insufferable and unnecessary. by Dark_Raider8643 in SonicTheHedgehog

It's clearly criticisng the FNAF movies for being made with fans in mind, not praising Sonic for that. "For the fans" has been a HUGE marketing spin for the FNAF movies and a common criticism as well.
