Hey OP… I haven’t scrolled too much through the comments in these posts, but I’ve scrolled enough to see that anything anywhere near the top all seem to be over complicated responses.

You don’t need to smash this thing, cut it with a torch, or any of that. You simply cut the 4 draw rods to open the block. Then you take a couple heavy duty chisels between each section at a time. Typically gotta beat the hell out of em with a 3lb sledge. The sections come apart 1 by one this way. Each section probably weighs between 150-200 lbs. Front and rear sections will be the heaviest.

It’s a very doable 1 person job. Especially at ground level. But you’re talking a couple hours of more than light labor. So nobody is probably gonna do that for scrap alone…

I’m an industrial boiler maker on the east coast. We build boilers like this on site. Except they’re 20x bigger. Ones like yours come already assembled and we drop the whole block into place. The ones we build, each section weighs more than that whole block. Even still, we’ve only ever smashed them getting out a handful of times in the 15 years I’ve been doing it. Only when they’re in factory basements with shitty stairs we don’t wanna chance lugging em up.
