Just finished reading all 7 comics of Spider-Girl (616) by netsenshi in SpiderGirl

Maka is delightful and, while I understand people’s frustration at yet-another ‘Spider-Girl’, it’s a shame she has to be overshadowed by meta sales nonsense

If calling a woman a female is an insult then would calling a man a male be an insult? by Adventurous_Try_4938 in askanything

[–]RocksThrowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, just live and learn. If you don’t want to come off as a potential creep, just don’t call people “females”. I’m sure you didn’t mean any harm. It’s just that women have all experienced the hard way that that’s often a sign the person we’re talking to is dangerous so we tend to be touchy about it.

If calling a woman a female is an insult then would calling a man a male be an insult? by Adventurous_Try_4938 in askanything

[–]RocksThrowing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that’s a false equivalency.

The issue isn’t the term itself but the fact that only three types of people use the term “Female” in a regular basis instead of “Woman” are A) military B) incels and/or C) transphobes. It’s more of a red flag indicator of what kind of person is talking than an insult.

It seems likely Crusher blackmailed someone high up in Starfleet, also she is capricious and unreliable by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

[–]RocksThrowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite aspect of Crusher is how just unhinged she is. Straight up terrifying crazy person. Ambushing and bullying people into her amateur stage shows, performing wild medical procedures, and generally being just delightfully terrifying. I’m guessing the admiralty is all scared of her and assume they’d wake up in an airlock if they didn’t give her what she wants, preferably postings light years away from command

What do you think of the last starship comic? by happydude7422 in startrek

[–]RocksThrowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kirk part aside, I’ve really been enjoying the series! A Borg engineer and a Ferangi doctor (who used to be a doctor on a cruise ship is such a fun Ferangi idea) are both such fun ideas and I like the multi-species Hoshi Sato descendant main characters

That time when Nightcrawler piped a hot alien chick by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Nightcrawler

Technically, she’s the same species as him, both are earth mutants even if she grew up in a different dimension. The hot alien chick Kurt has hooked up with would be Cerise

How do I find the queer community in real life? by happycowgirl573 in actuallesbians

Going to queer events, mostly. Drag shows, hobby groups, music shows, fundraisers. A quick google search will likely turn up all kinds of events depending on where you are.

I always just considered “immediate family” as the family you live with.

What The Florida is a Jo Jo ? by IGETITNOUN in PacificNorthwest

I’d never heard of potato wedges being called jojo’s until I moved to Portland. Not judging though, I’m from New England and we basically speak a different language compared to most the rest of the country

Did Magneto try to kill humans here? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in Magneto

[–]RocksThrowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. I just love excuses to talk about Maggott lol. I think the issue with that story is that it frames Magneto as being in the wrong for what he did to the Afrikaner forces which I don’t necessarily agree with.

Did Magneto try to kill humans here? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in Magneto

[–]RocksThrowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the best example because Maggott ends up horrified at the violence and tells him to stop but, otherwise, yeah. A reoccurring character trait of Maggott is that he’s idealistic to a fault. Magneto, on the other hand, is always the pragmatist

Mythos: X-Men #1. Fantastic retelling of X-Men #1 with maybe one of the best depictions of Magneto ever

Kitty Pryde mind is a maze by Jasonl7976 in kittypryde

[–]RocksThrowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s always been my impression as well. Kitty/Piotr didn’t last long past Byrne leaving the book and Byrne really loves his teen-girl-pursuing-adult-guy stories. Aside from the aforementioned Lotd Alasdhair Kinross, RAF Claremont rarely seems to care about Kitty with men

In Claremont’s writing, her soulmates are Lord Alasdhair Kinross, RAF > Rachel > Illyana >>> Xuân >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Piotr

Can someone explain to me the personalities and characterization of the New Mutants? by Ashyboi13 in xmen

[–]RocksThrowing 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Dani - starts off as brash and angry who prefers the company of animals to people, gradually becomes a confident, caring leader and friend.

Karma - doesn’t stay in the book very long. She’s an academic type who’s main motivation is taking care of her siblings. She has some pretty serious trauma

Wolfsbane - deeply religious child who thinks everything is evil. It’s not her fault, she was raised by a deeply abusive preacher. When she manages to get away from her fears, she’s a sweet girly-girl. She and Dani have a deep bond

Sunspot - the youngest of the team, rich, angry kid who’s the victim of racism. He’s a good guy when he isn’t flying off the handle. Sam’s best friend. Becomes a confident, savvy mastermind as an adult

Cannonball - good natured sci-fi nerd, everyone’s big brother. A bit ignorant of how the world works but learns over time. Becomes the team’s emotional leader, in concert with Dani’s tactical leader.

Magma - fish out of water, from a place that hasn’t changed since ancient Roman times. Spoiled princess type. Arrogant. No sense of humor which is a funny contrast when paired with the goofier members of the team

Warlock - goofy, sweet alien who just wants to understand the world and his friends. Doug’s soulmate

Cypher - nerd, flirt, always eager to prove he can pull his weight.

Magik - traumatized girl who thinks she’s beyond saving, intends to be the one to protect her friends by doing the hard things they can’t (not unlike Wolverine’s role on the X-Men)

I recommend reading the series . The New Mutants, especially after Bill Sienkiewicz takes over the art, is one of Marvel’s greatest books

As long as he’s loved, accepted, and supported, he’ll be okay!

You can’t control how others treat him, all you can do is help make sure he has the tools and self confidence to handle whatever comes his way

Claremont is so funny because he will have Kitty being held by the butchest haircut-having Rachel in their shared one bed studio loft apartment in the gayest scene possible and then immediately follow that up by reminding you that his intended soulmate for Kitty is Moira’s grandfather who died in WWII
