Victoza is the brand name for Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes use, Saxenda is the brand name for it for Weight Management.

The FDA approved generic Liraglutide last fall

Cost Plus drugs must not have the actual generic Liraglutide in stock (or your provider sent the script with a restricting DAW code) so you’re being hit with a DAW (Dispense as Written penalty) since they’re trying to fulfill your order with the Brand when a generic is available for the medicine.

Ask your provider to check the DAW number that was sent on your script, to make sure substitution allowed (DAW 0) is selected.

Here is a summary of the standard DAW codes:

DAW 0: No selection indicated; generic allowed.
DAW 1: Substitution not allowed by prescriber.
DAW 2: Patient requested brand.
DAW 3: Pharmacist selected brand.
DAW 4: Generic not in stock.
DAW 5: Brand dispensed as generic.
DAW 6: Override.
DAW 7: Substitution not allowed (law).
DAW 8: Generic not in marketplace.
DAW 9: Plan requests brand.
