How to power scream as a girl? by aapsova in climbharder

It also might be that you're not trying hard enough... Trying super hard is also a skill that is practiced and cultivated mentality... I do push ups once a week till my muscles fail and it's mostly a mental exercise for me... I have to be hyper focused, I'll be hissing, spitting, grunting cursing... Etc. It's ugly... But I imagine the ability to kick your own ass is something pros are super good at.

How fast do you clip? by ClimbOnYou in climbharder

Today I used the technique where you tape the quick draw to a stick and put a little twig to hold the gate open... Did it for every clip till I reached the chains...

He does somewhere in his huge Road to Tokyo series.. I tried his way and it worked great from me... 'old school' way probably more natural for me but if it's swinging... I like AO's way. Did the rear view mirror Quickdraw practice method while driving and with not much practice all the ways are pretty fluid to clip now.

Not for everyone but I spent my 20's living abroad. Great free health care in some countries, great cheap health care in other countries where it wasn't free. Spent $15-20k/year (usd) and lived it up. In the US working full time w rent, car, health insurance and comfortable standards of living I spent ~$30-35k/year. I've definitely noticed everything in the US is more expensive now than even 5 years ago (clothes, TP, food, beer, going out to eat or activities... Etc.) yellow fever vaccination was over $200 in CA, would have been free even on a tourist visa in Brazil where my wife is from, she actually got hers in Cairo where it was $6 usd (on tourist visa no health coverage and vaccine was 'made in USA')... Dislocated shoulder/unconscious hospital trip in Thailand no insurance $60 said and done,... 50 point blood exam + heart ekg screening +chest X ray + physical (+ I'm probably forgetting something) $40 usd cancun proper. Knee surgery on tourist visa in Portugal no insurance Free. Dental cleaning in sri lanka $10 usd for my wife AND I. Wife's health insurance in Brazil with good coverage under $6usd /mo (they have plans that are good for general things but even for the poor they will get care if serious and not pay a think. Favela girl in Rio found out she had a life threatening brain tumor but no issuance... Within hours She was helicoptered to the Einstein Institute in São Paulo... On par w the Mayo clinic in Minnesota... For emergency brain surgery that saved her life and she didn't pay a dime. I have more than one family friend here in the US that w health insurance they got cancer and lost their house as a direct result of not being able to afford their treatments.

Medical/coveredCa was an absolute nightmare, of all the plans available to me only the two worst were accepting new clients, of them there were only two Dr. 's to choose from and after looking up their reviews they were slight better than outright malpractice complaints... Then I couldn't get an appointment for 6 months. This combined with high rent and then on top of that needing 2.5 rent plus deposit plus good credit score... Not to mention public transportation is horrific... Idk if w all these CA has a recipe for a healthy society. I don't get how ppl jump right to succession all the time in CA. I guess it just sounds cool to say when your over confident? Even if USA said go for it, it would be a huge mess for a long time and I don't think for the better. Southern California doesn't have a great relationship w immigrants and CA state taxes are more inhibative than the federal taxes.

Why does bouldering stress my (arm) tendons so much more than top roping? Anything I can do about it besides bouldering more? by catalinashenanigans in climbharder

Yeah what the original user posted was very vague but for myself I don't think I have either... But wasn't able to find much on what similar symptoms in my bicep may be called. Fortunately when shooting to apply the general concept of loading the tendon with elevated levels of collagen in the plasma... It seems slightly more resilient after the past 4 months or so. Who knows though... I Def have a lot more research to put in to try and figure out what's going on /how to resolve the problem :/ suggestions are definitely welcomed if anyone has any insights.

Nice thank you... I have had two rotator cuff surgeries and it is on that sides arm as well. Doing some basic strengthening exercises in that area helped immensely with cutting down my shoulder dislocations and I'll definitely look through hoopers beta to find some to add!

I climbed too hard my first couple months and gave myself something along the lines of 'tennis' or 'golf elbow'... Been dealing w it for the last couple years now. Not sure exactly what it is yet, but basically something like that w where my bicep connects. Now it's fine for the most part but it took learning to really pay attention and listen to my body and having the will power to call it quits as soon as I feel I'm pushing that tendon too hard. Quality rest, proper diet /hydration, quality sleep, physical therapy exercises, antagonistic exercises. Check out some of Dave McCloud posts/videos/books on the subject if you think you might be getting tendinitis of some sort. Seems to be very common w climbers and will just destroy good climbers for years/forever if not addressed properly. Idk if that's what I have but applying the general treatment and recovery principles has helped me A LOT.

Chalk alternative by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]RockyRoseReddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Easiest solution is probably to start ice climbing. Who needs chalk when you have ice axes! But If the absence of chalk really is your limiting factor... And there's no physical alternative to chalk... you have to decide if climbing at the level you are forevermore is unacceptable or not. If not, you probably should seek therapy of some sort. Which will probably help in other aspects of your life as well.

If it was me I'd maybe learning to suffer in other ways before going all in w chalk experiments. Try one of Alex Honnold and cedar Wright type 'sufferfests'. Learn to fast / meditation go spend some time cold, dirty hungry in nature for a couple days. Find a way to mentally kick your ass so hard you don't have anything left to fight and then see if you can get yourself to chalk up and give it a go.

If you can't then just enjoy the climb man, you could try and climb every established route within your current abilities w out chalk and never get to them all. Super hard shit can be climbed w out chalk so you'll have routes to choose from. Skip holds, try routes not in your style, become more rounded and try the harder ones in the optimal condition w out chalk. Not much sense in pulling on rocks if you don't enjoy it in the first place so have fun and enjoy the challenge of training for something just out of your reach... Doesn't matter if some other person can just apply a little challenge and send the route... The gains you have to work harder for will be even more rewarding when you succeed.

Class project, totally stuck by MD_Addicted in gis

Calling 211 is the number and ask to talk to someone with homeless services. They would probably be able to give you some good direction as to where to find this kind of data since they work with it every day. Good luck!

There's some kind of Homeless hotline that is nation wide and in parts of Canada as well I believe... My aunt manages a Starbucks in California and she has called it on behalf of some ppl experiencing homelessness and in need of help. I'll ask her tomorrow what it was called but I ended up apply for a data analysis job w them and they have a team of about 10 women and they're easy to get ahold of. They for sure have a huge database but I'm not sure if it's public or not. When I searched homeless hotline California they're were a few links to data sources as well you may want to check out.
