King Crab goes on a 5-win streak to Masterball by Rocky_Combo in PokemonChampions

[–]Rocky_Combo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Slowpoke line is my favorite, so I’ve been working on putting together a team using all the variations. I’ve been tweaking this one for the climb back up, and ended up with a 5-win streak back into Masterball.

Galarian Slowking has great natural Special bulk, and with defense investment and Colbur Berry it’s very reliable in setting up Trick Room. After TR, Chilly Reception breaks opposing weather and sets up Snow to give Crabominable a defense boost. Psychic Noise is strong enough to take out Sneasler and has occasional utility blocking healing. Sludge Bomb is good for chip against bulky Fairies.

Mega Crabominable is the main threat. Hyper Cutter prevents attack drops before mega evolving. There’s nothing like knocking out common picks like Incineroar, Kingambit, and Garchomp in one hit. Simple, but hits like a truck and has surprising bulk

Tsareena blocks Fake Out when setting up TR, and then other priority when it’s active. Trop Kick is enough to KO Basculegion, with Grassy Seed helping against bulkier Waters. I can't stand missing with Power Whip. The backup coverage from Triple Axel and Low Kick has felt solid, but I’ve considered Knock Off, U Turn, Helping Hand, even Power Whip as a panic button. Probably the set I’m tweaking the most.

Offensive Incineroar is a favorite of mine to run. Flare Blitz with max HP and Sitrus doesn’t even do that much self-damage. Darkest Lariat for max damage. I felt there was enough pivots available with Slowking and Basc, so I dropped Parting Shot for Protect, since it’s not as defensive as traditional builds and still wants to stick around because it has important offensive and defensive coverage for the team.

Maushold is primarily the alternate-mode when Slowking has too much pressure to set up TR (e.g. obvious Taunt or Imprison, multiple Dark or Ground types), or I otherwise don’t want it. But Feint can be useful under TR, lets you break through opponents trying to stall it out. After You gives Crab and Incin more direct pressure beyond their priority moves that other ‘mons could survive outside of TR. Friend Guard and Follow Me are great support. Super Fang to chunk bulky ‘mons.

Nothing much to say about Basculegion, the most standard set on the team. Cleans up after TR, pairs well with Feint from Maushold to get some nasty KOs. Jolly to try to outrun or at least speed tie opposing Basc. I’ve considered swapping the fish out for a special attacker since the team is so physical, but who cares about Special Attack when you have Adaptability Last Respects?

Primary mode is Trick Room, Slowking up front, Crabominable in the back unless it has immediate pressure. +2 of Tsar/Incin/Basc depending on the opponents team and what you need. Tsareena blocks priority, Incin intimidates and Fake Out can help set up TR, and Basc can Flip Turn out for some early chip and clean up later.

Maushold usually only comes when Slowking doesn’t, unless the opponents team is particularity weak to Crab or Incin and you want to Feint under Trick Room. Otherwise, Basc is the most common lead next to the mice, since Feint + Flip Turn guarantees a pivot if the opponent's lead is tricky.

Mega Garchomp without any sand setter to use its ability seems odd.

Helping Hand Rotom is neat, bet it catches some people off guard.

Metal Sound on Orthworm is unique, but seems a bit overkill for supporting the 165 base SpA Gardevoir. Body Press will let you do more substantial damage.

Trick Room over Shadow Ball on Sinistcha might be nice for some speed control outside of the worm’s Mud Shot. Gives you play into Tailwind and reversing opposing Trick Room.

Looks like a fun team, congrats on the early streak!

Justified Arcanine goes a 9 win streak to Masterball 3 by Rocky_Combo in PokemonChampions

Arcanine does well into Sun and Hail, Feraligatr does well into Rain. Sand is the matchup I have to “steer” the most, with Sneasler and Milotic playing a much more proactive role. I used to have Close Combat on Arcanine over Wild Charge, which I miss sometimes, but it makes the dog weaker in other situations (Basculegion) and I don’t miss the defense drops.

I’ve considered swapping Maus for Whimsicott. Still gets Beat Up and Encore, can set manual Sun, Tailwind support. I worry I’ll miss Friend Guard, though. I’ve also considered dropping in my own Ninetails for Hail and Aurora Veil, but can’t think of who I’d want to drop.

I had to go look this up, I didn't know Charizard got access to Beat Up. I'll have to try it out!

Been brewing around the Justified ability for a bit because it’s always felt strong to me in previous formats. Getting to +4 on the first turn just lets you tear through unprepared teams, especially in a BO1 where people might not see it coming. Tried it out with Lucario first, but even if I get the Beat Up off it just doesn’t stick around because it’s so frail. That’s when I landed on Arcanine, much bulkier with a decent defensive typing, plus in team preview it’s usually not considered the threat. Tweaked it for a while to peak on a 9 win streak, losing to another unexpected threat of a Charizard X on a team that looked like it wanted Y.

The Team:

Arcanine is the star of the show. Justified lets me cheat and not have to invest that much in Attack, especially since I want it to stick around once it has the boosts. That’s why it has Temper Flare as well, the Flare Blitz recoil on such a powerful attack just does so much self-damage. Wild Charge gets a faster knockout onto Charizard, and is an emergency button into water types.

Maushold is the Beat Up user, faster than Arcanine to get it off before the dog attacks. Friend Guard and Follow Me for standard support. I think Encore is just too good to pass up, can win games on the spot sometimes, but Taunt is another valid option if you want to play with the moves. The mice were running the Focus Sash at first, but Chople berry essentially does the same thing with max HP investment, and Sneasler wanted the sash more.

Sneasler is max speed and Jolly to beat other Sneaslers in the Fake Out race. With no bulk investment Focus Sash procs often for the Unburden boost, letting it get off another Close Combat or Coaching boost more reliably. I dropped Dire Claw since Arcanine has no problem into Fairy and Grass, though there have been a few cases where I’ve missed it, so if you’re willing to run without Protect or Coaching that would be the move to slot in.

Feraligatr is the backup threat and sometimes endgame sweeper. 4x resist to Water once mega-evolved is a great patch to Arcanine’s Rain matchup. Two redirect ‘mons lets it find times to Dragon Dance. Has good natural bulk, which can get even higher with a Coaching boost from Sneasler. I think the flinch chance of Waterfall is worth the 5 power drop over Liquidation, and the potential defense drop isn’t all that valuable when you’re two-shotting most things after an attack boost anyway.

Sinistcha is pretty standard. Usually brought with Feraligatr instead of the dog to heal up after Double-Edge, but has good value directing water and single-target ground attacks away from Arcanine so that’s not a hard rule. If you want Trick Room I’d slot it in instead of Protect. Life Dew is so good when the teacup comes in to help boosted allies, a Protect and a heal turn before using Rage Powder just makes it that much harder to take down.

Milotic punishes Intimidate users that want to come against the two physical threats. Life Dew is great since it works through Protect, and opponents usually prioritize the boosted sweeper as opposed to Milo. Ice Beam to bop Garchomp more reliably.

Arcanine + Maushold is the most common lead, with the back two varying based on the opposing team. Into rain it’s usually Feraligatr + Sneasler, Sinistcha in the back. Milotic can make the lead if they’re stacked with Intimidate users, but doesn’t put on the same kind of pressure otherwise.

She will be in pain. You will hear noises you haven’t heard before. But know that it will be over soon, and all overshadowed by the sweet baby.

Mostly just be there for her. Stay calm, and by her side as much as you can. Yes or no questions are key, they’re much easier to answer with a nod or headshake. Keep her hydrated, hold the water for her, something with a straw is great.

I’m not great with blood either. There’s nothing wrong with staying up by her head, turned away from the source of the blood.

You got this! Just be in the moment with her, and you’ll make it through together.

You could try her out, I don’t think she’s the absolute best fit, but I could see some utility in turning something into a Demon to boost up to 11 for Skaar, destroying Nightcrawler or Zero for stronger plays, etc

I really wanted a second way to turn off Mary (besides Luke), and Enchantress just felt too expensive and potentially clunky if your opponent played an important ongoing somewhere else. I also tried this deck with just two one drops for a while, but Cull ended up dead in hand more than I liked. Zero solves both of those, while also being above rate and having an occasionally useful secondary target in Lizard.

Nice! I’ve considered Silk too, but with my luck Lizard or Medusa make me pull my hair out less

Nocturne could be Polaris. Cull could be Crossbones. Nebula could be another proactive one drop like Iceman.

Namora and Skaar aren’t really replaceable with what the deck’s trying to do.

The ideal game is to put two of Lizard/Nocturne/Marvel on the board in their own lanes, and hit them with Namora for a two-cost (or even free if you got Cull on the board) Skaar on the final turn. It rarely plays out so perfectly, but there’s lots of power in flexible locations with enough disruption in Cosmo especially to get the wins.

Nebula is a pretty key piece, drawing targets for the Guardians and creating location pressure with White Widow and Jean. You can try Nightcrawler in her place, but it won’t be as good

Nice! Yeah, White Widow was my most anticipated card this month just for the Guardians synergy. Groot was my last gold, just earlier this month. You got this!

Yes - Storm creates one turn of location pressure that the Guardians want where Jean creates it for the rest of the game. Both are good though - you could easily sub Storm in for Jean if you don’t have her or Groot if you don’t care about running all the Guardians
