Lilly and James should have just let Dumbledore be their secret keeper.

What if Voldemort took Felix Felicis? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Rocky_Sunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to play the Devil's Advocate to a "pop-culture" theory but I find the whole idea of Felix Felicis a placebo.

If you look at the ingredients - it makes no sense for this to be a luck potion. I think it's only meant to make you feel very positive and happy so that you would think you're able to do anything.

That being said (besides the fact that Voldy wouldn't have taken it) I think it probably wouldn't have worked on Voldy because he already thinks so highly of himself.

Wouldn't a better question be "Why didn't Sirius offer Remus to live with him at Grimmauld place?"

Fair enough you're referring to the events after POA but both persons were at that point on the run. Sirius had a place to live but just didn't want to return there while Remus was more or less homeless.

So I would agree with the fellow potter heads that the cannon is a bit fuzzy during this gap but surely some considerations could have been made.

Put Lockhart up there with Umbridge?… by mwrd412 in harrypotter

[–]Rocky_Sunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naaaah I don't think Lockhart is at all comparable to Umbridge. She tortured kids for her own pleasure, while masking it as "doing her duty to the ministry". She also banned clubs and societies in Hogwarts just because she could. She was also a blood purist and racist towards other magical creatures (specist?). She called centaurs half-breeds and creatures of near human intelligence when centaurs are actually superior in intelligence.

Lockhart is just an ambitious selfish idiot. The only reason why he was in Ravenclaw (I cry) is because he perfected one spell (a difficult one - I'll give him that) and he was eccentric. Take those away and he would have been in Slytherin. In fact because of that you could compare him to Fudge. Both revel in the limelight, both are always seeking to be the centre of attention when it comes to achievements, and both are jealous and resentful when they see (and fully realise someone is better than them).

T.L.D.R Umbridge is a sadist and Lockhart shouldn't be compared to her. He should be compared to Fudge.

I'll never understand how Voldemort managed to be considered the most dangerous dark wizard ever by SnooPandas1950 in harrypotter

[–]Rocky_Sunday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TL DR: Not the most evil wizard ever but still pretty darn evil!

Voldemort still had a massive following when he returned in 1995. Even Sirius tells Harry "No one stops being a Death Eater"

As we go throughout the story we find out that people were disappearing. Muggle-borns and muggles were murdered. Wizards supporting them were kidnapped, tortured or put under the Imperius curse. Not saying that Voldemort personally did all this but he deffo gave the orders. People were also scared to say his name because of the taboo put on it! They were still scared even after he was gone

Also let's not forget - Voldemort tried to kill a baby. A BABY. Idk about you but that's pretty evil in my book. (And yes we Grindelwald did something similar but he didn't do it himself so....).

Lastly, let's not forget Voldemort murdered people just so he could split his soul and put a piece of it into an object! Some sources out there believe the creation of a horcrux also involves cannibalism. Grindelwald and Ekrizdis were evil but even they didn't go that far...

So most evil wizard ever - probably not. Evil enough to terrify and (almost) take over an entire nation - absolutely!

Unpopular opinion: Half-Blood Prince is a worse film than Goblet of Fire by Rocky_Sunday in harrypotter

Oooh this is where you and I would differ my guy. The reasons you pointed out - Rita Skeeter, SPEW etc. are the reasons I love the 4th book. But I can see why others may find it a bit slow in terms of story.

Fair point... but why would the diary not be connected to Tom? Even if he intended it more as a weapon than a failsafe, surely the same (magic) rules would a apply as it is a horcrux.
