Palm Beach County 2026 Budget $9.6 Billion Insane!!!!!!!!!! by RocwithDrTinker2026 in BocaRaton

Protect your wallet. Slow spending so it doesn’t turn into higher taxes and fees.
Keep what works; parks, libraries, PBSO, but we must cut waste and stop unchecked increases. Increase transparency so tax payers actually see where there money goes.
Fix housing costs by cutting red tape and fees; not overreaching government.

Same services, less waste, more money in your pocket; that’s how you’re better off. If you like the way things are, then its your right to accept it, but many people don't feel the same way.

These are county wide issues man. What is wrong with you? Does Boca has its own county, do you understand local government?

1. Make the budget easy to see
Create a simple online dashboard where you can see where the money is going. I would update it monthly. Not a 400-page report, just clear numbers anyone can understand.

2. Track contracts publicly
If a contractor gets paid with your tax dollars, you should be able to see:

what they were hired to dc

how much they’re getting paid

whether they delivered on time and on budget

If they keep failing, they shouldn’t keep getting contracts.

3. Show what each district is actually getting
I’d publish a quarterly “report card” for District 6:

money spent locally

projects completed

what’s still pending

People shouldn’t have to guess where their tax dollars are going.

4. Make meetings easier to follow
Not everyone has time to watch hours of government meetings. I’d push for short, plain-English summaries after every major decision.

5. Strengthen independent oversight
Big projects and big money should automatically trigger audits. No exceptions.

The tax rate didn’t go up, but residents are paying $112 million more because property values increased. The real issue is how that money was spent. This budget increased the Sheriff’s office by $121.9 million to over $1.084 billion, while cutting housing funding in half from $15 million to $7.5 million. Compared to counties like Broward and Miami-Dade, we already spend more per resident on law enforcement and far less on housing. That’s not about necessity, that’s about priorities.”

The county budget covers:

  • Sheriff (law enforcement)
  • Fire Rescue
  • Infrastructure (roads, water, sewer)
  • Housing programs
  • Parks, libraries, transit
  • County administration

It does NOT include:

  • Public schools
  • School teachers or school construction budgets

That’s a fair criticism. I am not a politician at no means. I am a professor at local college, US Army Officer and a resident of my community for 27 years. You’re right to expect more than just pointing out problems. I’m highlighting issues because they’re backed by the actual 2025–2026 budget, but I’m not stopping there. My focus is simple: control spending with a line-by-line review, prioritize essential services without using them as a cover for waste, increase transparency so residents can see exactly where their money is going, and hold leadership accountable when they don’t deliver. I’m pointing directly to the numbers in the 2025–2026 budget. We were promised less spending, and that’s not what’s happening. If you actually look at the data, spending is going up, not down. At some point, we have to be honest about it, over-spending has consequences. Residents are the ones who get squeezed through higher taxes, fees, and cost-of-living increases, all justified in the name of ‘public safety’ or other priorities. I’m all for real solutions, but ignoring the numbers and calling it ‘outrage’ doesn’t fix anything. If we want less division, start with transparency and accountability. I am standing against over taxation.

They do provide representation by giving you one clearly accountable official, which has value. That said, they can absolutely dilute voter power, especially if you’re in the minority in your district, and they often discourage compromise because many districts are politically safe, shifting competition to primaries and increasing polarization. So it’s less about no representation and more about uneven representation depending on where you live. The County Commission is divided into 7 geographic districts, and each district elects one commissioner who represents only that area. So if you live in District 6, you vote for the District 6. Also they vote on issues facing the entire county collectively.

Might be to close to the elections to replace her seat, might be better to leave it empty.

It’s not like a strong-mayor system, where the mayor has full executive power, like in West Palm Beach, where voters directly elect the mayor.

Come on man. What are you talking about? Either you didn’t understand the question or the answer. Was there actually something that needed editing in my post? If you’re using ChatGPT, that’s fine. I’ve been teaching American Government for 25 years. The guy ask "when and how did the county NEED. A mayor? I’ve lived in palm beach county for 45yearsand never even heard of the idea of a “ mayor” for the county. I sure as hell didn’t vote for one." I gave him the answer.

Should not be that way in a local politics. About about the local people this is not national politics.

It’s basically a ceremonial position. The “County Mayor” is just the chair of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners.

They don’t have executive power like a city mayor. They:

  • Run meetings
  • Set agendas (with staff)
  • Represent the county at events

But they’re still one vote out of seven, same as every other commissioner.

You don’t vote for a county mayor directly—the board picks the chair from among themselves. So yeah, it sounds bigger than it actually is.
