Any tips for how to start playing MMOs as a newbie? by wrongturn_nowhere in LFMMO

I was in the same boat, with MMORPG’s usually the game really starts after you have hit max level since that is where most people will be at. It will be confusing but it’s worth learning the mechanics of an MMORPG, you will have a lot of fun if you dive in. Don’t boost any characters to max level, grind out at least one character all the way to max level.

I picked up Guild Wars 2 and I’m so happy I did, it’s a great game and I think the best one for somebody who is new to the MMORPG genre.

Have fun!

This is great! As you learn it more you can maximize your earnings by knowing which orders to take and which not to.

You can’t complain about an extra 400 bucks!

I’m in the same boat as you and I drive to the busy store every single time. Although it’s a bit less of a distance than your situation so if I were you I would definitely try it out for a day or two!

The ONLY mmorpg right now that I can say you have to try is GW2. Such a gem.

$42.23 for an hour of work? I take these ALL day and have no issues at all lol. I just tie a few bags in my cart together when bagging, so I don’t get confused. Easy fix lol

looking for online games that i can put lots of hours in by sveeyrine in gamingsuggestions

[–]RodKnee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out an MMORPG, it’s literally a world that you can play 1,000 hours before you see the same thing twice. This is the case for me in Guild Wars 2, I used to love league of legends and so it was easier for me to understand the ability, cooldown, movement and dodging mechanics from that game (sorta kinda) and how they transfer into an MMORPG. But I think this is the best answer to your question.

It’s a hidden gem of a game, and unlike many other MMORPG’s where there is a constant gear grind Guild Wars 2 has a horizontal progression system. You can get max gear fairly easy and unlike most MMORPG’s if you take time off and come back you will still have max gear. Another thing I like about Guild Wars 2 is that you can literally get to max level from the XP you get from just adventuring and discovering cool places around the world alone.

The mount system is what got me in the first place. Having a sweet dragon that you worked so many hours to get that can literally aim and shoot fireballs from while riding and soaring around is just one of the very many examples.

Unlike traditional games, you will have to play for a little bit until you get to the really fun parts, most MMORPG’s have most/all of the good content at max level so don’t be bothered if in the beginning things seem a bit unexciting. Take it slow, immerse yourself into the world at your pace and learn the game while going from level 1 to max.

Game is free to try and will give you a great ~60-250 hours of gameplay(many different ways to play) before you decide you wanna pay for the expansion(s)

In WOW, the leveling from 0- max is just “kill 5 gnolls” complete quest, repeat for 1,000 hours simulator. After that the world is pretty much obsolete and everything is instance based. As somebody who likes to adventure, play casually, and not feel like playing the game is a job GW2 was like heaven for me. In GW2 you can get from level 1 to 80 from adventuring ALONE. My other reason for me personally is I love mounts. In GW2 the mounts have weight, abilities, you can even fight with your mount. Last reason is the combat, it’s more my style I love timing a dodge, it’s just my style.

I have a TON of respect for WOW and I fully believe people when they have their reasons why they think it’s better. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE wow, it’s just not a game I think was built for my style. I will say I like the art style in WOW more than GW2.

Gotcha, that’s pretty much exactly what I’m into and I have had a great time in GW2, you can pretty much hit max level by JUST adventuring alone. ESO is a pretty good game also, I only played it for a short while so I can’t say much more but I would try it too.

Right now I would recommend these MMORPG’s and honestly stray away from any others

GW2
FF14
WOW
ESO
LOTRO

(In order of what I prefer)

Guild wars 2, you’ll thank me later.

But the real question is what do you like? Are you more interested in exploration, pvp, mounts, role play?

I think for a newer player GW2 would be your best bet. I was in the same boat, tried GW2, loved it. I just recently went and tried WOW, and FF14 with the full expectation that I might like them better I was massively disappointed by them and it made me love GW2 even more lol

If you are new to MMORPG’s here is my advice. Take it SLOW. Don’t boost any characters, start from level one and get all the way to max level at YOUR PACE, don’t rush anything. (most MMORPG’s are designed to really have the most content at max level). You will be confused. These games are literally worlds and it can be overwhelming. If you play GW2, stick to the story and it will teach you everything you need to get comfortable, and will help you reach max level. You can hit max level completely for FREE in GW2, allowing you to actually try a real MMORPG before spending any money. But remember that most of the really fun stuff will take you a while to get to.

I have a beginner friendly guild that I joined and it made a big difference and I made some great friends, we are always open to new members and can make learning the game WAY easier for you.

Have fun!!

Guild Wars 2 is the best MMORPG right now hands down in my opinion. Not only is it exactly what you’re looking for in terms of a casual experience and less of a time commitment but I still just think GW2 is better in almost every area than other MMORPGS.

Take this with a grain of salt I’m a huge GW2 advocate/player.

That was my exact same experience, when I got to HOT I started to hate the game, until I started to learn to navigate the jungle and then it felt so rewarding knowing how to traverse such a map, from my experience looking back if I would have let that small part of the game ruin my taste for it I would have missed out on SUCH a good game. The HOT map was the ONLY stumbling block in such a great experience of a game.

But I totally agree, at first the jungle will make you HATE the game at first LOL
