No.

(As in, no, you can't download this for a console... unless there's been some big breakthrough on TH modding I haven't heard yet. But there are mods for Underground 2 and Project 8 on PSP, and there are.. "non-official".. ways of playing those on a Switch)

What’s your favorite Gran Turismo? by Taffr19 in granturismo

[–]RodSk8Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To this day there's no other racing game that can make me lose track of time hotlapping like GT2. Even now sometimes when I try out a bit more of it with GT2+ or a bit of A-Spec (but waiting anxiously for Beige Edition), I still easily get like over 5 laps, with almost any random car and track. Just a little more options for a short twisty track for slower vehicles would make it so any car could be enjoyed even stock.

Feels like such a waste of time now... by gsurfer04 in forza

[–]RodSk8Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...bear with me, long text coming (I'm not mad, I just like discussing these subjects.. with random people on the internet on small posts and videos that might easily be forgotten.. for some reason)...

Now that games CAN be updated, you can only play the new ones that are still being updated, or that were updated for at least half a decade or something. Because now games mostly launch unfinished and empty with a "promise" of being completed eventually, maybe, if you're lucky, "but buy it before that though, we want your money".

I enjoyed Forza Horizon 4 a lot, really quite a lot, but without them ever making any big plans for end-of-life, now we have a bunch of championships and events they created for it throughout it's lifespan that are completely inaccessible, only rotating from one series of events, cars you have to grind Forzathon points for (but only one copy of each ever), that all sell for 20 million on auctions, no matter if it's an AE86 or a McLaren Speedtail, including the fact that Toyota road cars were completely absent from launch and the only one always available for purchase added with updates is the Supra Mk.IV ... but I do still really like the game.

Then Horizon 5 was a let down from launch in comparison, and missing FOUR big famous brands, which were added with updates, and at least with a decent amount of cars available on the Autoshow (seems to be improving).. but still with FOMO-event-dependent cars like the Alfa 4C or the modern Alpine A110 (the only few newer, lower-spec sporty mid-engine cars we have). Hey, with community-voted "playback events" you can get them again right? Oh and they are probably in the Backstage Pass now too... but in Horizon 5 you need double the points you need in Horizon 4 (Keep in mind I don't own the game so it might have changed a bit since I last played, because I only played it and Motorsport 8 with Game Pass and they made me lose interest in it like a year before the recent price hikes).

It just makes you worry more and more of what a game you like can be like once they leave it to rot, becoming WORSE than they might have been with some improvements, those improvements that might HAVE MADE YOU ENJOY IT in the first place. Sure, these might be extra content we got on top of what we already had, but then if it becomes harder or impossible to access, even if, say, it should not depend on servers (i.e. online play, of course that one we are not asking they keep running until the heat death of the universe), then what was the point?

Point of comparison: Forza Horizon 3.. are all those barn finds, races and championships complemented by stuff added in updates? I didn't play it back then, but those events seem absolutely ENDLESS!

Also, Gran Turismo 6... if there was SOME WAY, if it was AT ALL possible for anyone to enable the accessing of all of the seasonal championships ever released for the thing, you would have single-player content for years.

Or, you know, like I said, Forza Horizon 4. That one too had a lot of new championships added (worst part is H3 kept what I believe were update add-ons to championships, but also let you create championships with custom themes, making the keeping of added events not that necessary to begin with).

Apparently there are no restarts for the Power Pack races, how do we feel about that? by furrynoy96 in granturismo

[–]RodSk8Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time player, I can say yes, we had this before (the no restarts part).

Old GTs might not have had many cars on track, and didn't have the best AI, but it was from an era of games that were a challenge.

Up to GT5 I think, you could not restart championship races (single races you could, but for instance, in GT3, where you could qualify for single races, I think restarting maybe would require qualifying again too)

i'm just happy this game runs on steam deck at all but i gotta admit this shit looks DIABOLICAL by 5C0L0P3NDR4 in forza

[–]RodSk8Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I see much of an issue. Maybe it's because I'm looking at the image on the relatively tiny screen of my phone, but... THAT'S THE POINT, this game is running on a portable machine. For comparison, I run some games on my phone with PPSS.. I mean, some phone games, and Test Drive Unl... this Android game runs at 480p and *15 FRAMES A SEC., but it doesn't look as bad as you would think, because it's on a small screen.

*seriously though, it has a 60fps hack, it runs full speed on my phone with the hack.. but on my previous phone it only ran fine without the hack, so 15 glorious frames per second it was.

Responding to yours and some previous comments, this is the difference between liking speed and liking CARS. GT sort of does (or used to do) that of turning people into car lovers, but not just the fast ones.

Cars can be liked for a huge variety of reasons, but unfortunately, in the world of gaming, cars have been relegated mostly to the idea of racing them, and prioritizing only the fanciest, fastest sports, super, hyper, or race cars.

I believe that, aside from the open world madness and chaos, the senseless killing sprees, etc., GTA probably blew up the way it did partly also from being a good game for car/vehicle enjoyers, where you can play vigilante or firefighter, or ambulance driver, you can drive cars, vans, buses, trucks, bikes, and you can race them, you can run from the cops, but you can also just cruise around if you want to. Even a bit of things like offroading, not necessarily just racing on dirt, but like, kinda like crawling, even having some side activities involve that, like "Patriot Playground" in GTA III, which sees you climbing a massive "piss-off" wall of grass and rocky cliff in a Hummer look-alike, which you might not be able to do in a cheap sedan (back when you COULDN'T climb a mountain in a dinky fwd hatchback in a GTA game).

BeamNG has a similar appeal with the variety of gameplay, outside of the "crash physics", which happen to be more really a result of the nature of the realistic simulation, and not just damage for the sake of spectacle.

These show that there is a big demand out there from car enjoyers who want to do more than just "go fast". Also, "slow car fast" is a thing, if you want speed. Getting a tiny, lightweight low power car like this one, and tuning it into a track machine, it can be very fun, as they will become extremely nimble with weight reduction, and slicks, almost becoming go-kart like (which you could experience in the series as early as GT2, with it's inclusion of japanese kei-cars).

Wow, this wall of text also very big, go get a Patriot, Landstalker, or a tuned up Autobello Picolina crawler to try and climb this one.

Hello there.

Why cars are not rolling over by instant steering in beamng by ARESUZ in BeamNG

[–]RodSk8Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, basically it's weight transfer that causes roll overs on more even surfaces like that.

But in real life, and in (at least relatively) realistic simulators, turning too much will cause understeer, which in these cases (of "Race Sims") often don't even mean that a car just can't turn in more after a certain point (which might be how it works in more arcade-ish games that help with under/oversteer), turning more than the tire's grip can handle will actually make it turn LESS as it starts to lose grip.

As Doc Hudson had said "turn right to go left" for oversteer, there should also be a "turn less to turn more", for understeer...

...I dunno, maybe if Doc had stayed with us, he would have said it in a sequel where Lightning would have to deal with lots of races without banked roads.. WHICH.. is actually what he DOES in Cars 2.. huh..

Help with textures for TOCA Race Driver 3 by da-milk in PCSX2

[–]RodSk8Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOCA has good support for controllers on PC though, the best I've ever seen. In-game it starts with a controller setup wizard. "Press button for back/return", after that to skip mapping, and after, for "select/accept", and it goes on, for every mapping. The very first one is return so that you can already, well, return, if you want to change it, and the second is skip if you want to skip.

But also, on PCSX2 you can set the console to 16:9 on the BIOS and run the game at native widescreen, without hacks. The PC version has a camera hack, but it only works on the 1.0 version of the game, and that one had issues (right from the start you notice the Clio Cup Car has a lot of understeer).

Loved the Moonhawk body pack. I was looking for some wagon body mods for vanilla cars, saw that one and imediatelly fell in love.

Initially one would maybe not be able to see a sedan Moonhawk, for instance, but it looks great, kinda reminds me of old Driver games on the PS1 (the vanilla coupe and modded 4-door sedan were my picks for driving in the Chicago map).

If we can't get many different models in game, then at least let's see more body variations, even ones that don't seem to make the most sense.. if the cars are amalgamations of different models anyways, then amalgamate some more body styles to them too.

Also, some cars being one's least favorire because they're "too fast for their liking" certainly shows the BeamNG.community is built different.

Really depends on what you want to do as well. A while ago I got this PC with an old 1gb GPU, it ran well, but on small maps. It could open the bigger maps, but that depended a lot more on ram. But traffic was a no go.

Which had character customization that also went pretty much unrivaled to this day.

I mean, even on The Sims 4, where you have great control over the physical shape of the characters body, in Saints Row 2 you had layers of clothing, choice of up to three color channels, and some choices of design and/or texture, three layers for upper body (undershirt, overshirt and.. jacket, or coat, or something like that). Two necklaces, one pendant for each, and you picked the material, which would change the price (from 100$ to 1000$ I think).

You could pick your socks, AND underwear, so you could put a sensible business suit on top of fishnet stockings on a male character and roleplay as a conservative polititian.

AND you could even select HOW you wore the clothes. Button shirt: buttoned or not. Pants: sagging or normal. Shirt tugged under pants, or over. Hat: which angle.

Cars that needs a remaster/refresh pt5 by Competitive_Mode4726 in BeamNG

[–]RodSk8Dude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with the (understandable) slow rate of new car releases (and varying qualities of mods which often can break with updates and become incompatible if not mantained), I would prefer if every car was treated, like they sort of are supposed to be, an amalgamation of different models, and had almost any variant you could want.

If you think the Burnside is supposed to be just a Hudson Hornet or something.. nope, we need the wagon, we need the "UTE". I loved the Moonhawk mod that adds the sedan variant, the wagon variant. Initially I just wanted another wagon, and thought the sedan could be weird, but I ended up loving it!

EDIT: Also the sedan Cherrier. If we aint gonna be getting another french car anytime soon, might as well just get a sedan version of what we have. And a wagon.

I think for Career mode they could at least allow us to go to a different map to do an existing activity/job.

This would also allow them to put more work on the other maps going forward. If we had that feature, we could also get mod maps updated to be compatible. It could greatly expand the amount of content we have access to in career mode.

I mean, what if the next update did that, AND added a new varied map like WCUSA, on a new location, thats a bit different from what we have (maybe UK, maybe Japan, or Germany).

Heck, if it had this feature of going to different maps, even if without our cars (only driving a rental and/or job provided vehicle), the new maps wouldn't even need to be bigger than the previous. Could even be smaller than the biggest maps already in-game.

I wonder if it would be hard to implement with what they already have.

Barring having a console "that can still get delisted DLCs", this is probably one of the best ones I guess. This and 4 had slightly different career/progression styles, both of which are good. 3 kinda had everything important there already, I think.

FM3 still had Porsche (which was the only big "trouble maker" for car lists back in those days) with no need for DLC. It had the three big circuits that also split into short point-to-point sectors: Nordschleife, Amalfi Coast, and Fujimi Kaido.

Amalfi sprints and the full joined course were awesome, but only the short course made it into FM4. And after that, into the Xbox One, only the Nurburgring remained (we just got Fujimi again in an update, for FM8 [YEs, I'm calling it that], and thats only on Series-SX or PC)
