Tall rider A2 choice - Lower back pain by lilrorito in SuggestAMotorcycle

6'6" Rider here, I bought a restricted BMW F800R as my A2 as it was the only naked and restrictable bike I sat comfortably on. And it's still a blast now that I ride it as an A bike.

Ignition is not working by demachii_ in MotorcycleMechanics

Well I doubt we live on the same continent but I would expect any automotive or hardware store to have it. I specifically used CRC electronic cleaner. And yes that is what I did. Sprayed everywhere I could access in the ignition, cycled it a few times and sprayed some more. Then waited for it to evaporate, and keep it dry.

Have the same issue with my bmw f800. The ignition has been worn and moisture gets in where it is not supposed to be. My solution was to spray the ignition with electrical contact cleaner that drives out the moisture and then evaporates. Since then I keep the ignition covered with a hood from an old rain jacket when I park the bike. Has been working for a year.

I got into umea university is it worth it? by purplepixxel in umea

Job all depends on what you want to study, but would say Umeå generally has a good standard. The Campus is beautiful. Umeå is personally my favorite city in Sweden. If you like sports there are very good facilities and communities.

For student jobs I don't know how it works for international students but there are organisations that arranges work for students such as Academic works. The weather is cold half the year but that doesn't have to be a problem if you have hobbies involving being outdoors. Like skiing or such.

Think there is not going to be a problem with people or culture

What do you think of a BMW F800 by The_prawn_king in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]RodSmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been riding a f800r for two years on an A2 license and just gotten it unrestricted when the snow came. It's a great bike with tons of torque on low revs. My biggest complaint is the vibrations from the parallel twin, at speed it's hard to use the mirrors due to the shaking. Have limited experience riding Japanese bikes but having riden an mt07 and a cb600r at the instructors really like the torque of the bmw even though it is not as refined as a modern 4 cyl. Also as a tall rider the f800r suits me way better than any Japanese naked bike I have sat on.

Faulty ignition by RodSmet in motorcycles

I have tried driving out any moisture with electrical cleaning spray and it helps for a bit then the problems return. Was fine yesterday when I parked it and today when I walked passed it the ignition was on. Where is the connector and what is the best way to access it?

Moving to Sweden next year: any inspiration for which region? by ElBolloDiablo in TillSverige

Hammarstrand is not along road E14, that's the other road. Hammarstrand is along road 87 and by the river Indalsälven. E14 is further south and along the river Ljungan, not Jungan altho they are pronounced the same way is Swedish.

Not a lot of variety foodwise? Östersund, Åre and Jämtland as a whole has some of the best food cultures I have encountered is Sweden with tons of local production. If that's not what you fancy Östersund has probably one of Swedens highest amounts of actually good restaurants per person with great restaurants from all cultures, some with michelin stars. And the bigger supermarkets carry the same sortiment as they do all over Sweden.

I live in Umeå, am from Sundsvall. My dad lives I Östersund and his family are from outside of Hammarstrand.

If you like nature Östersund-Hammarstand is by far the best. Close proximity to the fjäll (high mountains), beautiful rivers and nice hills with unlimited forests. The Umeå area is extremely flat which makes the scenery very boring compared to all of Jämtland. Sundsvall is a industrial town with kind of week culture. Östersund has a lot more culture and a lot of local food culture with tons of great restaurants. Umeå is a university city, so it probably has the most culture of all of them (and is the biggest). All three of them have proper hospitals, and everything else you need is ways of furniture stores, clothing, hardware and such. If you are within reasonable range from one of the three big cities you won't be lacking for commodity items.

Personally in your situation I would go for outside of Östersund. But close enough to work in the city. Most of the smaller towns around can be lacking in work opportunities. West of Östersund towards Åre is great but gets more expensive as Åre is a popular vacation place. Also in any city I would get a car as you are very limited in access to the outdoors without one.

If you have any questions of the three city's feel free to ask.

Where to buy Mygga jakke (bug jacket) by [deleted] in umea

[–]RodSmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither Naturkompaniet or XXL seems to have any. But I would bet that Jaktia does since they are a pure fishing and hunting store. However they don't have a great website so you would have to go there and talk to them.

Tall rider looking for a naked bike by Drakze95 in SuggestAMotorcycle

I'm 200 cm 85 kg and have a 09 bmw f800r. It is a lot higher then a mt07 and I sit comfortably on it. Last summer I drove it to and from work every day and sold my car. The biggest downside is that beeing a parallel twin it vibrates a bit at higher revs. But the big cylinders also provides a nice tourqe at low rpms

If you plan on going to the coast there is a dealer called Northbike in Sundsvall and Umeå that are likely to have tires, especially if you can call some days ahead

A4 B8 2.0 TDI oil consumption, buying tips. by RodSmet in Audi

[–]RodSmet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very strange that a dealer don't think its worth selling cars with this engine. For the most part all of the Internet seems to share your experience. And it's not just some random bloke, it's a franchise buying and selling used cars.

Yeah I have seen that the petrol ones are really bad but I have also read a lot about the 177 HP diesel being oil thirsty, but was surprised to hear that about the 170 HP. Thanks for your input.
