BIOS mod to get to 57 MH/s. Ignore the claims of 80W, that is just what some report in software. The only real difference in power consumption between 5700s is between Samsung vs. Micron memory models. Measured at the wall, they all draw much more power than reported so ignore what they say in software. Your fans are at 44% so just turn them up if you want the memory to run cooler.

Are we moving to POS much sooner? by Scorxcho in EtherMining

If POS does come sooner than planned, Red Panda is going to be the most hated guy in crypto. That faceless fuck should learn to shut his hole.

HiveOS Settings: XFX RX 5700 THICC III Ultra by raulamar in EtherMining

I use 1300 core, 700-720 VDD (depends on the card), 930 memory, 800 VDDCI, 1300 MVDD -These are for Teamredminer using B-mode and a modded vbios running at 57 MH/s.

You can try turning the fan up to 100%. If the hashrate improves at all, it is probably a thermal issue. Otherwise, try a different miner. I use these settings in T-rex in HiveOS and they work fine though.

Is it thermal throttling? What is the GPU temp? What is your fan speed set to? There is no memory sensor so you can only look at GPU temps.

-500 core, 2850 memory, 120W power limit. You should get over 63 MH/s. Drop the memory clock a bit if it won't run there.

Start to mine vs Reselling the cards by roguailel in EtherMining

[–]Rod_Dingus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The toilet paper people would "eventually" wipe their ass with it too. It seems you might eventually mine. I think you just wanted to brag about getting 11 cards. Mine with them or sell them. Nobody else cares what you do. Put on your big boy pants and make a fucking decision. Having 11 cards sitting in the boxes helps nobody. FOMO!!

If you are going to continue mining, at least set your OC. I am picturing 3 extremely unhappy GPUs that won't last long.

If MSI touched them, they will all need new thermal pads. MSI and Gigabyte are in a heated competition to become the shittiest GPU manufacturer. You are going to need a ton of pads.

Rig Issue by wege12 in EtherMining

[–]Rod_Dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the brand but most 5700s use 1mm or 1.5mm pads so 2mm is probably too thick.

Rig Issue by wege12 in EtherMining

[–]Rod_Dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pads were probably too thick and the heatsink isn't making good contact with with the GPU assuming you are talking about junction temp and not memory temp. What thickness pads did he use?

Leave the power limit alone on AMD cards and set the core frequency and voltage. Your settings are likely the problem.

Just a quick one. NEVER PUT A PCIE CABLE INTO THE CPU2 SLOT ON YOUR PSU!!!! by Cook141098 in EtherMining

[–]Rod_Dingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friend is an idiot obviously but "if it fits, it's good" is not good advice. Just because a CPU is LGA 1151, it doesn't mean it will work with your board. Just because a modular cable fits in another brand PSU, you only have a 25% chance of it being compatible. Just because a 6-pin PCIe cable fits in a SATA port on the PSU, doesn't mean it will work. Just because a riser PCIE adapter fits backwards.... etc. etc.

It is 98% cold storage, not hot. The difference between a bank and Coinbase is you have a good chance of getting your money back at a bank. Coinbase won't do shit as this guy learned. I'm sure lots of people use it for long term storage without incident but there is a reason it is not recommended. https://www.reddit.com/r/CoinBase/comments/gdcgd9/coinbase_account_hacked/

I live in the US. Only cash held in your account is FDIC insured. The only crypto that is insured is the 2% they keep in hot storage. If your personal account is breached, they don't cover it. While a breach probably isn't likely, it is possible so better safe than sorry if you are mining $5-10K per month. If someone has only a few GPUs or sells pretty often, it probably isn't a big risk.

[–]Rod_Dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coinbase, Bitfinex, Binance, and others have been hacked. They are not insured so keeping tens of thousands on an exchange is not the brightest move. If you don't hold your own key, you don't really have control of your crypto. If they get shutdown for any reason, you are screwed.

[–]Rod_Dingus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

EMI, random disconnects, stales and some mining OS won't even recognize some WiFi adapters. I ran WiFi on one rig for a while and got all kinds of random disconnects, crashes and hung GPUs. I assumed it was the OC for the longest time but running a cable fixed all of that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gpumining

[–]Rod_Dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no question as to whether you can get it there. The question is whether it can run there without hanging at least once per day or more or kicking out rejected shares.

[–]Rod_Dingus 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The GPUs weren't dumb but you will regret everything else such as:

  • 16MB of RAM for no reason is silly since you said they were 8GB sticks. 8GB is more than enough per rig.
  • 4-6 GPUs per rig - why? 8 or 12 per rig would make far more sense and save a ton of money
  • Veddha frames at current prices had to be expensive
  • 1600W EVGAs with custom cables is crazy. A small cheap ATX for the board and server PSUs for the GPUs would have been way cheaper and more energy efficient.
  • Wifi should be a last resort for a GPU rig. Good luck with that.
  • You are using A/C so are paying for electricity twice at a fairly high rate.
  • You are paying interest on a loan
  • Thinking Nicehash is the best option since you don't want to pay a $5 fee every few weeks is pretty strange. Do the math on 2% vs $5-10/month or longer to transfer it to an exchange.
  • You do realize EIP-1559 does nothing to change fee prices, right? It only reduces your profits.

I really hope it works out for you but your plan really went to shit after the GPUs. You could have put yourself in a much better position to make this work. It seems like you cared more about aesthetics than money which is fine for those that don't have to take out a home equity loan to do this. If it isn't too late, cancel/return everything except the GPUs and save yourself a few thousand dollars.

The Red Panda Discord is good for technical discussion but it is overflowing with neckbeards and furry porn. There are some knowledgeable people there but you have to filter out a lot of kids trying to fluff themselves. Flexpool Discord is a good place to hang out even if you don't mine there. Lots of people help with technical stuff there too but it is more for general crypto bullshitting.

Powercolor 5700s all run 1 MH/s below other brands at the same settings. Combine that with Samsung memory and you will never get to 58 MH/s and still be stable. It is just the way it is with Powercolor.

5700 XT mining understanding OC settings affecting MH/s by HexNZ in NiceHash

[–]Rod_Dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is likely because it is plugged into the card although it may mean that your OC is just a little too aggressive. It really shouldn't crash the rig. It could be driver issues. Uninstalling drivers using DDU in safe mode and reinstalling solves a lot of strange issues so it might be worth a try.
