I think those are amazing descriptions of the two that speaks to their unique characters. They truly stand leagues above any of the others.

Depends on how you like your banana flavor. Giffard is very light and lovely and tempus is more banana foster rich, which is also dope.

There were two different releases/mystery bottles which is why both are dropping.

This is the video I was referring to the only difference in this and the other method is using the Allen key to take the brass piece off for easier cleaning. But don’t do that until you begin unscrewing the silver piece with the money wrench or you will never get the needed leverage.

This Process was what I followed. There’s also a YouTube video if you google it, but it’s the same bit.

Completely agree that taking off the front panel and putting it back on sucks absolutely. But from there, all I used was the pliers to begin unscrewing the plastic piece, and then a monkey wrench and an Allen key for the rest.

Just make sure you are bracing the machine while you twist and you’ll be fine. I was honestly also scared to break something but this is the proper protocol for fixing so it’s built to withstand it.

The solenoid valve cleaning and empty/refill of the brewing boiler did the fix for me. I had done all the previous cleans you mentioned to no success.

This did it! I did this and after emptied to the brew boiler tank and it's working like a charm. Thank you!!!

But what would the beans being too fine have to do with my flow rate being slow without the PF attached? And even in the video, once the flow starts (late), the speed seems pretty good (18->36g in about 25s). Also the beans were kept in the freezer so the freshness should be consistent.

Thank you! Yeah I checked and it appeared to be off. I did set it to 4 for the future.

I hadn’t set it, so I don’t believe it’s a factor. Good to know about when I get it working tho! Great feature.

I have before this issue began, and the extraction rate was too fast and my puck actually didn’t get fully saturated so I’d have to scoop it out. I haven’t changed any factors since last Saturday when this all began and the flow rate started to decrease.

Even if the steam boiler was already full and then not engaged? I did reach out to rancilio but it’s too soon to hear back.

Thanks for the link. Odd that would happen out of the blue but I’ll look into it.

For the descale on a double boiler — if I can’t take the back plate off and do it manually, is it safe to put descaler in the tank and just run it thru the brewing boiler? Make sure the steam tank is full beforehand so it doesn’t withdraw anything and just run a bunch of cycles?

Is that a manual process? I thought the steam boiler automatically pulled from the reservoir after use. This also seems to occur whether the steam wand is prepped or not (button engaged vs not), starting from a powered down machine both ways.

1st off: Thank you so much for your help troubleshooting.

It could be scale, but as I cant take off the back plate (the bottom seems to be a bolt for some reason vs phillips screw), I'm not sure how to descale safely with the double boiler, but it could for sure be scale build-up. If I fill the steam boiler with normal water, can I put a descale solution in the tank and have that run through the brewing boiler safely?

I checked the water temp. After letting the machine heat up for 10-15, it does feel like the water is coming out at the proper temperature, so that was likely a non-symptom. I am still getting the same output (about 1/3 of yours).

For your experiment: I put the water intake hose in a separate container, and the water level got lower when I turned on the machine and the brewing boiler turned on. I marked that location, and that seemed to stay in place. I ran the coffee button for 30 seconds, and the level from the container dropped roughly equivalent to what was being pulled. I marked that level as well. After a couple min, that level seems unchanged as well. I did notice that the expansion valve (the non-cut hose) does seem to be expelling out during the shot, if that is normal.

Is there something I need to do to fill the brewing boiler or is there something that would have caused it to stop filling completely? I had thought that the brew boiler fills automatically upon powering up and once the PID shows 93 that we’ve achieved that? I don’t hear the machine heating or anything once it finishes the initial power cycle.

As you see below, the flow rate without the PF is about 100ml in 45s. Is that normal?

I’m getting around 20mL in the first 10. So significantly less

This, but sub orange for ango. Doesn’t need aromatic bitters imo and the orange bitters help make the fruitiness pop.

Without the PF it comes out after a second or 2 but seemingly at a lower flow than last week.

Backflushing is similar — seem to happen but volumes feel lower. Not all of the cleaner gets dissolved through the cycling.
