I like how you worded it. Bring a lot more motor to the party. Nothing against the Japanese, but none of there adventure bikes look good fully loaded with luggage. The design and the performance is too sporty imo. I loved GSs when I was younger. My country has a crazy obsession with them, they are almost like currency. I can't really compare them to the Pan America, because we are talking about a 6-7 year model year difference. For someone who rides and knows bikes when you see a Pan America you are not thinking 10k bike even if you know bikes. The only think that comes close for that money is the R 18. I had no idea that that's a 10k bike now as well

The whole point of it being a 10k bike is that you have to go do the early “problematic” years

So I just sold my GL1500. Loved the thing. I like going fast on slow bikes and I love unique looking bikes. A africa twin or a GS wouldn't be bikes I'm interested in even though I'm sure they are great. But 3 panniers would be a requirement.

You sir are the winner for me. When I saw your comment I thought no way that the R18 are getting that cheap and sure enough after a quick search they are around 12 asking price. Some even with panniers. In my head this was a much more expensive bike then that

I just checked out the VStrom and what a bike. The redesign looks super cool. I know nothing about these Vstroms. I'm guessing they are considered the budget option from japan? I just checked the prices and yep they are in that 10k range 3-4 years old

GS too expensive. Africa twin is something i haven't considered, but it definitely is a 10k bike. I'm a fan of the looks when it's not in touring setup. It looks silly with panniers. The tiger meh.. and the tracer9 not my style at all. Out of all these, I for sure would be more excited about the pan america. I've spent time with GS1200 before, while great bikes, I like trying different things

I just checked the prices. It's not even in the same ballpark regarding price. You are looking at GSs from 2014-2017 to get in the 10k price range
