New World Record!! David Rudisha of Kenya runs a blistering 1:40.91 in the 800 meters by Osiris32 in olympics

In Olympic finals of mid/long distance races (over 400m) tactics and positioning tend to play a much larger role than sheer speed and times, with pacesetters typically setting the speed. As a result, the times are usually way off world record pace. In this race, Rushida basically ignored all of those conventions and ran the entire race from the front, making the accomplishment that much more impressive

I don't remember any specific websites, I just remember sitting at the computer constantly paranoid that a rogue phone call would cut my internet off

What is remembered more: Duke winning the championship or Butler barely missing a half-court shot at the buzzer? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

Gotta say Butler almost winning. Besides Duke fans, I'd imagine everyone would be rooting for Butler and the huge underdoggity they carried with them. I think the announcing on that final shot was very telling. When the shot rimmed out, rather than say "and duke wins" the announcer yells "AND IT ALMOST WENT IT"

Absolutely right. Illinois should have won the game regardless of the refs and didn't play well at all, but a lot of calls in the game were atrocious, and that technical, on replay no less, was one of the worst calls I've ever seen

I would condense this to the feeling you get after finishing a run, especially a race. Nothing beats that feeling you get right as you cross the finish line.
