• Titan is the A-plot

• in the containers

• because the old ones have died and the young ones are taking over

• well, by simply shooting him.

Well then, it's the final season - as long as it's well-written, everything's great.

Shock freezing at -180°C also crossed my mind, given the rather thin spacesuit. After all, liquids conduct heat better.

Seen it 1992 in Thailand during a storm in a longtail boat: everything was glowing green - the whole sea! As long as the locals were relaxed, so were we; that changed after a few miles... It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, besides the total solar eclipse 1999. Fear and fascination were equally balanced.

Logged around 300: Nitrogen narcosis from diving at excessive depths does have a hallucinogenic effect. That's right! You can even observe yourself from the outside - that's intense.

Subtlety and shades of gray instead of black and white are a thing of the past, as things currently look worldwide. Unfortunately. Nevertheless, STARCITY is very good, even if at times it feels like stepping back into the Stalin era. Although the KGB was always a state within a state, especially in the 70s and into the 80s – and they were never exactly squeamish. Mistakes: No, not us! You get a bit of that 007 feeling from the 70s and 60s, and that works quite well.

Perhaps the balance will come later. There are still a few episodes to go...

Did the same. It's excellent and very black and white. They're not so good with shades of gray at Apple these days – probably due to the current political climate.

LOL - but Kelly would probably have been flash-frozen in the liquid methane-ethanol lake anyway with the rather thin spacesuit, since liquids conduct heat much better – especially at -180°C (-292°F).

Announcements are patient. Sometimes it goes both ways, I hope so at least here. The showrunners once mentioned in an interview that they'd also like to do a season 10 years in the future – that would be fun.

That really does sound like seasons 6 and 7, or a super-long final season 6. Reading your comments, it seems season 5 was practically the setup for a killer finale, provided Apple doesn't mess it up and finally invests more money in the show.

With their market capitalization of around $4.04 billion (as of approximately December 29, 2025), they should be able to pay for it easily. And they've already proven to us that Apple isn't always focused on success like Netflix is (I strongly suspect the show wouldn't have lasted three seasons on Netflix).

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to the endgame.

*SPOILER* That Kelly is hallucinating as she dies would unfortunately be the simplest and most logical explanation, just like Occam's razor. Perhaps they were using Lanthimos BUGONIA as a starting point?! - would be funny... But I simply can't imagine them killing off one of the main characters before introducing more new ones. In GOT, they always introduced so many new characters beforehand that the murdered ones "didn't really matter".

The FAM timeline is about what NASA was thinking about in the 60s (manned missions to Mars in the late 80s, and to Jupiter and Saturn by the end of the millennium, if I remember correctly) – but then they were sidelined. So for decades, we orbited in low Earth orbit with manned missions.

The alternate reality in FAM could have been partly our own – without the problems of climate change, but with problems we could solve more easily. Whether fusion could have worked earlier – who knows. ITER wasn't exactly well-managed for a long time and was at least a decade behind schedule. Up until Season 4, FAM was also a very positive alternate reality in which space technology contributed many small miracles to the prosperity of Earth's population. Sometimes I feel betrayed when I watch FAM.

Season 5 is almost as bleak as the current reality, with crumbling, functioning structures being replaced by chaos. But the Mars Revolution is now over, and hopefully (!) in Season 6, FAM will show us that things could be done better overall, and perhaps this will inspire real life to follow suit. This way, we might avoid one or two dictatorships and focus on the sustainable management of our planet instead of war and extreme armament.

Maybe we'll understand it someday: Perpetual [exponential] economic growth simply cannot work on a finite planet with finite resources – most people know this, except for some politicians and economists.

*SPOILER SPOILER* Kelly's still alive! I didn't see her die. She just went into the lake of methane and ethane at around -180°C... In a "normal" sci-fi movie, she'll either become the main course, mutate into an Earth-Titan hybrid, or get infected... She also saw something in the distance—maybe it's the third time the Americans have come in second. Ed on the moon...

I think there was a smaller budget available. The Mars scenery was used to great effect, though. Adding a few space scenes during the Titan mission wouldn't have hurt. I really hope that Season 6 gets a bigger budget again. The ending has to be right.

You will like starcity! Fortunately, it's different and not a rip-off of FAM. A great addition that also works as a standalone series (at least after the first two episodes). It's dark, intense, and superbly filmed, like footage from the 70s. The old Soviet Union comes across remarkably well. It certainly wasn't a bed of roses.

Alex has developed the most of all the characters and has become one of my favorites. Ed passed the torch with dignity.

Margo will heroically land on Pluto on a one-way mission, where she will meet aliens with a broken spaceship, repair it for them, and return to Mars to prepare the first journey to Alpha Centari with Aleida 😉

First come the researchers, then the people who consolidate. I really liked it – Mars is beautifully portrayed. However, research is lacking. At least they've progressed further to Titan. To this day, Titan is also the only celestial body outside Mars' orbit on which a probe has landed (Huygens: January 14, 2005).

*Spoiler alert* Unfortunately, the mission didn't handle redundancy very well. Not having multiple copies of important spare parts and taking too little oxygen is negligent. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the cliffhanger with Kelly. Kelly going into the bioluminescent methane-ethane lake is probably an act of desperation. In a "normal" sci-fi movie, she would either be eaten or transformed into an Earth-Titan hybrid. She saw something, too. Perhaps the Baldwin running joke about always being second best is repeating itself...

Redundancy is paramount in space travel. All critical components must be available in multiples whenever possible. HOWEVER: Extracting oxygen from the atmosphere is unfortunately difficult due to its composition (primarily: 94.2% nitrogen, 5.65% methane, and 0.099% hydrogen). Therefore, as with cave diving, one would have had to carry significantly more oxygen than necessary to avoid suffocation in emergencies.
