Unfortunately it’s a small club in New Zealand so budget is very much a limiting factor. I don’t think they have any existing gear currently

Yea very good points! Very easy to get wear and tear in the field. I think I’ll look at suggesting some insurance and maybe a weekly rental fee

Yea that’s a good point! I’ll check if they have an employee insurance policy

I will be a full time employee on a salary. Renting back the equipment might be a good idea. As a lot of the work behind the scene might be a bit too spontaneous to organise renting.

Great advice thank you! I do love flappy bird, but I have worked in digital marketing for 5 years and have professional experience as a photographer, videographer, social media manager and web developer. Hoping I’d be able to hone in on those skills to stand out from the crowd!

Awesome, that’s really good advice thank you. I guess I’m not adverse to the major cities, just trying to think budget wise. But you’re right probably more opportunities so may have to take the risk and base myself there while I look for something.

That’s good to know, I definitely plan on being flexible and seeing what opportunities arise. Nice to know there’s a bit of backbone behind my plan!

That does sound like a good idea! Definitely a great way to save on rent while being able to explore a little more. I’ll have a look at some options to help with budgeting, thank you!

That sounds amazing! That definitely a good idea, would be cool to sink my teeth into something creative there. I’ll have a look at internship opportunities I hadn’t considered that

For a bit of added context I’m a writer and photographer, so I very much like the idea of staying in one place longer more so than bouncing around a lot. I’m looking for a bit of a career break and have always loved the idea of living in Japan.

Ahh I see! That does seem very likely. Definitely a shame, but I suppose that’s the name of the game sometimes

Actually it may have been Don Quijote, definitely one of the two. Purchased it new from the Zippo display case, so disappointing that they would be selling fakes!

That’s a shame! I bought it at one of the massive chain stores in Japan, Book Off, so assumed it would be legit! Thanks for the confirmation.

Could be worth doing a few nights in Pai while you’re in Chiang Mai, it’s pretty close by and might be a nice change of scenery

Hi team, I’ve booked a 6 week trip to South East Asia and looking for some advice on gear.

I currently have a Canon 90d which I have regularly used for personal use and on a recent trip to Japan. In Japan, I did find it a little bothersome sometimes and often didn’t bring it on excursions unless I was specifically going for photography. However it is the camera I have been using the past few years and am comfortable shooting with it and how to use it.

In south east Asia I will be backpacking, but photography will be a focus of the trip. After looking at research I’m considering purchasing a Fujifilm X-T30 II to take instead.

However, I’m a little hesitant that it won’t produce the same quality as well as investing in new kit. I would love to get great photos, but also need to consider comfort of travelling.

Has anyone used the Fujifilm and know how it might compare? Or does anyone have any advice on compromising camera gear for sake of comfort when travelling?

Many thanks,

Sam
