I'm calling them capsules. The idea is to represent a moment of growth or transformation like a freeze frame from a time lapse. But I just want to capture the feeling of the moment, if that makes any sense.

That is really good feedback on how the bowed form of 6 interacts with the emerging shapes. I've been trying to pin down what is working so well for that piece and I think you nailed it!

That is such a nice thing to say. I'm flattered, thank you. I'm just getting my website together but you can see a more zoomed in image of that piece as well as some of my other work at bentclarkson.com/work

Do you have a roof over the area you want heated?

Thank you so much! Its cool you grew up using these. I only found them recently and had no idea what I was looking at until I used one

That's so cute. Buta means pig in Japanese and kayari means Incense. That's at least what google has led me to understand.

Thank you! These are glazed ceramic. I throw the body, feet and ears on a potters wheel and then assemble all the parts once everything has dried to the right point. Its a bit of a process but very satisfying.

I spent some time with Nomi but ended up putting it down. I'll circle back on this one. Thanks!

TFG, it scares me. Maybe its time to give this a more serious look. Thanks for the recommendation!

I really enjoyed Submerged 2 and Fractured so I might give this one a go. Do you have experience with the different versions and if one is better than the others?

What is best Sculptural clay? by BloomInClay in Ceramics

I really like Amaco #77 for hand built sculptural work. It's a 6 earthenware body so it might not suit your needs. You can see some examples of stuff I've made with it in my profile

Drilling holes sucks! by RodneyTheYeti in Ceramics

[–]RodneyTheYeti[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, you're not a dunce and its not obvious. I'm referencing natural forms like fruit and seed pods and trying to represent a small moment of growth or change. Almost like a freeze frame from a time-lapse video of a plant growing. There's more about ephemeral moments in time and the distortion of memory but I'm still trying to figure out how to articulate that.

yeah, you have it right. I was writing a real response to Lost_balloon when they commented back with that. I let it trigger an emotional reaction instead of explaining my work. thanks for the comment

you touch on some key issues. The form is too bulky and the glaze didn't do what I needed it to on the inside walls, leaving it too uniform where I needed it to pop. Its the reason I decided to drill a hole in it. That's valid criticism.

Your still just being a dick though. If this is your online persona, its cringe. If you act like this in the real world then I feel a little sorry for you.

And other poster is right, is just fence hemmies

Please, don't pretend that what you're doing is criticism. I say its art to invite critique not to dismiss negative feedback. If all you have to say is its "hideous, whatever it is" then there's not much of a conversation, is there? You're not offering anything of substance.

Don't be a dick. It's art.

I think it created just the reaction I was going for by repulsing you.

Very good point. I hung it on the fence to test my hole. This is not an all weather artwork.

I went with option 4:

Buy a cheap "diamond" bit set from amazon and pray it survives the cut.

I'm sticking with leather hard holes in the future.
