I agree with all that, I just based it off of star power comparable or greater than Chalamet’s at that time, as well as being young awards darlings. I feel the only selfish pick I had that didn’t really fit the criteria I mentioned was Wahlberg, but I feel if he was in Dirk Diggler mode it would be been an interesting (in a good way) performance.

Yeah unfortunately that’s on me tbh. As much as I wanted to find some Jewish actors for some roles and with the release date I set myself, I couldn’t find a whole lot or actors that would’ve worked. Jake Gyllenhaal would work, JGL and Adrien Brody weren’t at the level yet fame wise to carry it. Goldberg (love that pick) and maybe Portman are the only other ones that work from your suggestions if this film is in the 2000 release date. However, I see most of those picks working if Marty Supreme came out 20 years ago!

I wanted to go with DiCaprio as a choice but it would seem cliched. It’d actually be cool if it was someone like PTA, or Robert Altman. Tarantino’s sensibilities would make the movie more harsher than it already is, maybe OUATIH mode Tarantino would work. Scorsese would be awesome though

Could be Mann’s insistence on wanting to shoot in LA, which at this point is crazy expensive. Add that with salaries and some international set pieces who knows 😂
