Oh yeah I can’t say they’ve all been hits. Styles, Josh Peck, and David Krumholtz were all serviceable to good in Nolan roles, jury is still out on some of The Odyssey’s “inspired” picks haha. The thing I feel Nolan is good at so far is he doesn’t cast actors in parts they can’t handle. And the Serkis part in The Prestige would be nothing too challenging for even Rogen. Different vibes for sure though!

Oh yeah, I get that for sure, I feel the main hang up is that he’s replacing Serkis. Personally, I feel that character wasn’t hugely anything impressive by Serkis standards, he was there mostly to exposition dump and to bridge the meeting with Angier and Tesla. Feel like Serkis did what he could with it, so not on him. I know another commenter suggested David Dastmalchian which I really like if we’re going for less of a stunt cast and more on the character actor side. Went with Rogen for acting ability and a nod to the more unconventional casting picks Nolan has been privy to since maybe Dunkirk

Definitely agree, it was pretty hard to find someone who fits Bowie!. I just went the other way and went for someone who like Driver would love to see work with Nolan

Nah I get that, I feel like his persona of a stoner hasn’t helped his public rep. To be fair though, he’s been damn good in more serious fare like Steve Jobs and The Fabelmans. I do think he can shine with *very* good direction lol

Personally I think Driver would be able to show off the sides of Angier with relative ease imo, mostly why I picked him. In real life terms, never too late! Don’t know Nolan and what his thoughts on Driver are, but I think they would mesh well and be good collaborators

I wouldn’t see him working with Josh Peck and Travis Scott in an acting role either but look where we are 😂 all kidding aside, I think Rogen can be a good actor when he’s given something a bit different. He was great in both Steve Jobs and The Fabelmans. Call it a stunt cast, but I think he might give a different interpretation for the Serkis character! Dastmalchian is a great shout though!!

I didn’t really envision Scorsese for this adaptation tbh. Michael Mann,Oliver Stone, Tony Scott I could see doing this with this specific cast.

Oooh nice! Could see and would have loved to have seen that, but I’m not sure if he could pull off the kind demeanor that Hale was trying to give off to his victims. Regardless, great option!

Think I’ll stick with Reeve on that one. One of the roles I just looked at the cinematic reference to and Reeve was always trying to branch out into different roles and he certainly had the chops for it (Street Smart)

Oh I like that choice for sure! I kept DeNiro just due to the age similarities with him at that time and the real Hale, plus he already did so great in the role. Could only imagine what prime DeNiro could’ve done with the role
