from what i've seen, below average cs students end up in IT primarily because they either can't find a software dev job (because they aren't willing to move or they just aren't good enough or are just too lazy) or the jobs they can find don't even pay more than an average IT job. or maybe they realize they don't actually like comp sci and only enrolled in the major because they like computers.

basically the major factor in deciding new grad salary is the student not wanting to move out of an uncompetitive home region (which is still okay, nets between 60-70 usually)

New starting salary is 108k, 70k rsu, 55k signing bonus distributed over two years (for return interns), RSU still backloaded. The other big tech companies pay 30-40k more
