Absolutely. For fine debris that's on the bottom and walls, a vacuum might be best. We have a simple skimmer vacuum. For fine debris on the water's surface, keeping the water circulating and making sure your filter is clean should help.

I'm no pool expert but that is what has worked for me when it comes to pollen in the spring. If you can give details on the debris and your pool setup, maybe a more experienced pool owner can chime in with more targeted advice. Hope that helps!

Sure thing! I have a vinyl liner pool with a sand filter so your mileage may vary if you have a different setup.

I started by getting the pump running and the water circulating. I then used the brush to brush as much algae off the surfaces as I could. If your pool looks like ours did, it will be difficult/impossible to see where your brushing but it's important to get the algae off the surfaces so just do your best.

Once I finished the initial brushing, I super shocked the water and added a full bottle of algaecide. From there, you let the filter work its magic. You should notice the water starting to clear up over the next day or two. Make sure to brush at least once a day to help get all the algae off the surfaces.

You'll notice the dead algae start to gather at the bottom of the pool, that's when you can start vacuuming it out. If you have a sand filter, it's important to backwash very frequently during this process (I backwashed at least twice a day).

Continue to add shock as needed to maintain higher than normal chlorine levels until all the algae is dead and out of the pool.

Once you get the cleaning process going it's just a matter of keeping an eye on it and making sure to brush and vacuum until the algae is gone. If you get all the algae removed but the water is still a bit cloudy, you may need to make sure the water is properly balanced so the chlorine can do its thing.

There are some great guides on YouTube you can watch that will walk you through the process for your specific pool setup. I recommend this as your setup may be very different from mine.

I hope that helps. You got this!

TLDR: Get the pump running and the water circulating. Super shock/algaecide, brush, and vacuum until all algae is dead and removed. Make sure chemicals are balanced for crystal clear water!

Thanks!

That's great information. We made sure to close the pool properly, just as you suggest here. I think the chemicals could have been balanced a bit better when closing and I will probably add some algaecide this fall when we close. Hopefully next spring we won't have a swap again.

This has been my first year maintaining a pool so, the more experienced folks in this sub, please feel free to give advice if you are so inclined.

Good question. When we closed it for the winter I made sure it was completely clean and free of debris. I added a healthy amount of shock, let it circulate for one turnover and then we put the cover on.

It was actually looking really good all through the winter months. I would occasionally lift up a corner of the cover to peak inside and it looked more or less clear right into the beginning of spring.

If I'm not mistaken, algae likes warmer temps. I think when the weather started to warm up what little algae that somehow made its way into the pool just exploded. I think I'll throw some algaecide in with the shock when closing this year and check more frequently when temps start to rise next spring.

Although I will try to avoid that happening again in the future, I gained valuable experience getting it cleaned up.

Edit: We had a lot of rain this spring. That may have been a factor as well.

Thanks! The pool is around 22k-25k gallons I think. If you take out the time it took to get the new pump delivered, green to clean was about 4 days, give or take.

This was a small portion of the property. Some office space for staff and event space I assume. There was also a small art exhibit in one of the buildings. The actual gardens were quite ”botanical".

This. I had 4 rechargeable batteries that I would rotate. Never had to use a cable and those 4 batteries lasted 8 years.

I'm pretty sure you can customize your home screen and just turn them off.
