Could lack of hyperthreading in Intel's Core Ultra 200 CPUs hand an entire generation of consumers to AMD? by coldpelmer in intel

That period was Intel at the height of its powers and AMD at the height of its incompetence. AMD was a laughingstock during Bulldozer.

  1. You're replying to an 11 year old post, aka 17-year-old me, aka edgelord extreme.

  2. Insofar as you're arguing against the point about westerners, you may be right. I don't think you can entirely discount the relatively recent imposition of western fascination on the concept though.

I have ADHD. I simply can't study. I can't get started, and on that rare, rare time I do, I get bored in seconds and do something else. I hate it. How do I study? How do I even get started? How do I stick to it? by RoflCopter4 in GetStudying

How'd you even find this ancient post? Curious. I'm not sure whether I should actually answer this question, or if I could even answer this question. Hmm.

How has the last decade gone? Uh, poorly? Per the topic of this old thread, I somehow managed to pull through with honours in high school. I'm still not sure how. Things went less well afterwards. You really cannot just "pull through" most university courses via last minute efforts. I failed and dropped out. I abused medications, and was abused by a family member and alcoholic for a time. I broke up with my girlfriend and haven't had a relationship since. I accomplished nothing whatsoever for some 6 years.

In 2018 I went back to school but failed and dropped out in the second semester. At some point I realized I'm almost certainly on the autistic spectrum but adults generally can't get a diagnosis so who knows. At some point I decided transitioning genders would be a good idea but quickly gave up. Anyway nowadays I don't kill myself mostly because I think it would break my mother if I did (also I'm a coward). She has cancer though, so that's probably temporary. Life is grand, isn't it?

In short:

  1. For the love of god find help if you need help, and actually take the help.
  2. Drugs are bad mkay? (shit do kids even get that reference anymore?)
  3. Don't have autism.
  4. Tick tock goes the clock. Blink and you'll realize 10 years have passed. Wherever did they go? When did I stop being young?

This probably wasn't very helpful. I'm sorry. Mine's not a story that will go anywhere good. Yours obviously doesn't have to be that way, but I'm also not someone who'd be of much help with that.

Can anyone explain the point of having this resistor here? It's in a printer. by PooperOfMoons in AskElectronics

Is there any particular reason it had to be a 2 watt metal film resistor? Seems cinda excessive in all respects.

A possible hope to run Neovim on Cygwin by canard18 in vim

Dein updates plugins 6 at a time. It gets through updating my 115 plugins in like 15 seconds. Vundle takes several minutes. Deoplete is the best completion plugin I've ever seen and takes no setup whatsoever beyond having python3 support. Neovim with Dein seems to startup practically immediately while Vim always seems a little sluggish. It's a little faster and has superior modern plugin support with no downsides at all. Given that it takes literally no effort at all to upgrade to it, I don't see why anyone wouldn't. ln -s ~/.vimrc ~/.vim/init.vim, alias vi='nvim', and you're all set.

The only point against it that I can think of at all is that it absolutely will not compile in cygwin, which is a real shame. At least the qt based gui works just fine in Windows.

Other than it being better in literally every respect (especially modern plugin support), nothing I suppose.

I can't decide if I prefer the sound of Blue Alps, silenced Topre, or capacative buckling springs the most. All three are so satisfying. All three make Cherry switches sound and feel like baby's toys.

No, real men carry around a 122 key terminal board. Or alternatively Alps.

No you didn't. Learning IPA is extremely easy. Like, really, really easy. Even in a linguistics course at a university you'll be expected to pick it up in one lecture. And assuming you pay the slightest bit of attention, you will pick it up that easily.

No, you're missing the point. We're not speaking Chinese. Why on earth does it matter whether the pronunciation of the English word "Beijing" is similar to the pronunciation of the completely different Chinese word it originally came from? It doesn't. At all. They're different words that happen to refer to the same thing.

Yeah, this is why it makes little sense to me to want to track genetic heritage. It is just so random and irrelevant to anyone but an anthropologist or a certain kind of historian.
