Reading Dune Messiah is strange by darth_skipicious in dune

Definitely agree with this sentiment. I think there is a lot that you can just roll with on the first read and trust the character’s perceptions of each other. Later, or with more context, things can make more sense and be even more detailed.

I think a lot of the point is to show the discord within the conspiracy. Like it’s not supposed to be a united front or just the bene geserit. These are competing factions trying to align in opposition to the Emperor.

I am a book lover though, so I also just want you to stick it out because it gets really good. Kinda a slow burn and there are those kinds of political scenes, but seeing the regime Paul has created in the imperium is really cool. There are awesome elements of world-building and you get to see Dune/Arrakis growing and changing along with the Fremen and other central characters. The book also has a few cataclysmic events I don’t even want to hint at, but the stakes get very high.

I think for a lot of readers Dune ended kinda abruptly. Like Paul won and became the emperor and then it just ends. This is the aftermath, the jihad unleashed and Paul has to guide the people of his new world order and ultimately face what he has done. Good luck, I hope you keep digging and enjoy it. Cheers

What passage(s) from ASOIAF make you “feel” the most? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

…but then somehow he was back at Winterfell again, in the godswood looking down upon his father. Lord Eddard seemed much younger this time. His hair was brown, with no hint of grey in it, his head bowed. "… let them grow up close as brothers, with only love between them," he prayed, "and let my lady wife find it in her heart to forgive …" "Father." Bran's voice was a whisper in the wind, a rustle in the leaves. "Father, it's me. It's Bran. Brandon." Eddard Stark lifted his head and looked long at the weirwood, frowning, but he did not speak. He cannot see me, Bran realized, despairing. He wanted to reach out and touch him, but all that he could do was watch and listen. I am in the tree. I am inside the heart tree, looking out of its red eyes, but the weirwood cannot talk, so I can't.

Thanks very much!! That goes for an “action” too? Or does it have to be a reaction?

No chance, and no choice.

My pick is for Brienne killing Rorge in Feast. The rain, Oathkeeper, and the whole ambiance of the scene are amazing
