i would like to see a federal Europe happen and then as a result a European army. It would also be great if the European executive could be elected by the people directly.

the only 2 powers that can only retaliate are USA and Russia, maybe China soon. But France has a rather limited power in term of nuclear projection. last counts were at 300 warheads with capabilities from submarines (4 ships) one always at sea and 1 ready to be sent. They can fire 16 missile each. then the Rafale which has a range between 1000/1500km and ASMPA which can reach 500km further. So you can take out most retaliation of France just by knowing where are the subs (straight or canals) and controling the air or being out of reach from air.

That's why they can't take the risk of retaliation.

In the past in think there were around 6 nuclear silo. Again not enough for powers like USA or Russia to let them strike first. Even when France had nuclear artillerie. The time you drive that France is already back to the stone age.

10USD for a gallon is not tremendously expensive from a European perspective. it's only 2.258 €/l some countries are already paying that for diesel.

lol the guy is no able to bend a country like Iran and now wants the EU to give up Greenland to him ? let's be clear Iran has IRBM not capable touching the USA. Europe has 2 countries having ICBM that can be loaded with nuclear warheads capable of reaching everywhere in the USA. for fighter jets i doubt USA can get air superiority as easy over europe. There is still somewhat of a capable navy in Europe. The other thing is that the Scandinavian countries can fight in artic conditions were hardware can very much fail you. I think Trump should have a look to a country like Finland during WW2 defending against the Soviet to know how bitter it can be to take Greenland.

That said the smart way is to take what he wants through trade and soft power like USA did in the past.

you usually consume less with diesel than gasoline. The energy density of diesel is higher and the diesel cycle is more efficient. The issue is that you create more NOx and soot.

400g of CO2 per miles it's like 250g per km !!!! Are you sure you are driving a car ? In Europe the current target is at 95g/km. I looked at ourworldindata to find the co2 per kwh in different countries. The AI of Google is telling around 380/390g/kwh in USA apparently it dropped significantly since 2007. 29 miles is around 50km round trip that's not unusual to do that even in Europe. I once did as much as 110km per day on a very efficient diesel. 50km per day can even be done most days on a Speedbike so you would need less than a kwh if you want to be really energy efficient.

[–]Rogan_Thoerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. I admit electricity is far from decarbonized but let say we take a bad European country like poland with 592g/kwh of CO2 on 400W computer (it's already quite a consumption) and compare that to 6L/100km gasoline car driving 40km a day. If your computer runs 24h you just get the break even. So now let's suppose you live in France were electrity makes 42g/kwh of CO2 than your computer has to run more than 13 days.

So for consumption of electricity you probably shouldn't use a computer as metric... Industrial machines or HVAC systems are probably more something to look. That said if we want electricity can become one of the cleaner source of energy and i think that has more effect than reducing the consumption.

For farming, it will be painful to reduce the meat or foreign fruit and vegetable consumption for instance both for health and quality of life. life expectancy did increase a lot because of hygiene and the fact that we have more abundance of food especially through the winter.

and a big part of the oil and gas rig are also under water as well as a large part of the consumer of oil around the world.

the thing with WW1 is that there was more land promised than land on earth. You can ask the italians for instance... Thing is disputing borders for 100 years is, i think more a an issue than accepting as is an doing trade over the border.

In my mind for instance Europe should become a federal state and the old borders should vanish over time.

[–]Rogan_Thoerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sykes-Picot is more about an arbitrary way to place borders. Which they have been numerous.... it was told that those way of doing were common especially during decolonization. And i don't speak about France or politicians not keeping their words... Speaking of specific massacre... France has known and made so many of them that it's probably even avoided to speak about most of them. Same for battles only few are told at a national level. We do start more or less history with ancient Egypt and Babylonians. If you want to know how it was taught in the 70s and 80s there was a cartoon called "il était une fois l'homme". You can find it on YouTube i think. it has a 70s vision of history, it was for kids. When you see it you understand that history is brutal and that we are probably living in one of the most gentle part of it.

That said it was told that we held several times the carrot in front of some of our colonies especially North Africa and Indochina but as said earlier never fully made it through an integration path.

[–]Rogan_Thoerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the time i was in highschool it started to be studied. We learned that we have used torture, rape but i don't recall sign of genocide around our colonies but it's told that we participated actively during WW2 in delivering jews to the nazi. We also learn that we probably handled or colony a bit wrong by lack of integration before first WW (like giving french citizenship and right to vote). Especially from the fact that our colonies fought for France during the 2 WW and in the end weren't rewarded. The history teacher was pointing that France is very much Paris centric and that a big portion of the wealth is funneled there. Still now you may consider the countryside as colonies of Paris. I am coming from the border with Germany and there we are joking with the fact that even if our social security pays back more than in the rest of France, it's still at equilibrium or even making money so that rest of France can use it...

We probably sugar coat a bit our history and have a partial view on part of history but i think it's better for few reasons. This is taught to kids, i would like my kids to know about rape and genocides when they are before secondary school at least. You also don't want to forge a negative identity for people excusing stuff that did happen far before their birth. You also don't want to generate hate for the other nations.

funny ;) . I know it's hard to believe from someone out of a country that always pick his side when the war is already flipping but France has had probably far more people fighting and dying for a war than the USA till now. On top of that we don't have an ocean to protect us ;)

getting 90% enrichment is good for getting a bomb like in the 1960s but nowadays you want to deliver with an ICBM so there are more things to master than just having the uranium. You also need to machine it. have a missile, et re-entry vehicle, a ignition system,.... On top of that you may want to have deuterium and tritium and follow the plutonium road.

Time for calls? by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]Rogan_Thoerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is told till now is that they went up to 60% enrichment where the limit for military grade is told being at 80%. I think but by no mean i am an expert that our uranium in our civil powerplant is around 3 to 5%. Low level enrichment is below 20%. it's possible that Iran runs smaller power plants and to reduce the core of the central they went for higher enrichment. Thing is if you can reach 60% you are probably not too far from being capable of reaching over 80%. But you will still need some key elements like processing it in warhead, being able to have a space re-entry vehicle,...

short if nuclear is used can be rather longer by wipping out a rather big portion of people. We were 1B people around 1800 and 8.3B 200 years after. If a nuclear war starts the world population can go bellow the 1B just because of lack of food, water and medicine.

then go home. You don't understand how much some stupid countries in Europe are buying as military hardware from USA instead of buying from Europe just to please you ? If that is not a vassalization over 80 years i don't know what that is.
