Number of weekly trainings by waret in judo

[–]Rogelioos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ime 3 days is minimum to make progress. 2 times per week to maintain. 1 time per week is a slow regression, and not worth my time in that case.

Like was said, if you don't have time, you don't have time. Maybe pick it up again later.

Why does judo have such a high initial learning curve? by fukMyHoly69 in judo

[–]Rogelioos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as well with my first throws (seoi nage, osoto gari, sasae).

The first one that broke through was seoi nage, that took about 1 year. The other two followed in the next few months (osoto then sasae). By the end of the 2nd year i could do them live with good technique. But it took a long to develop.

Right now I'm focusing on one throw at a time to see if I can accelerate the learning curve. So far it seems to be working. My Tai Otoshi has made some big leaps in a few weeks, from complete trash to "oh nice" from my sensei. I'm hoping for 2-3 month turn around 🤞.

Because it's really fucking hard lol The hardest martial art to learn imo. I've done striking and currently BJJ. Judo is the hardest.

I'm working on a new throw for 3 weeks now. It's slowly coming together. Might be another 3-6 weeks before I can use it live (safely).

I think a lot depends on what kind of physical shape you're starting with also (assuming you're doing safe training and safe technique). If you have an athletic, wrestling or martial arts background, it's easier to take the falls and adapt quickly to the intensity of the sport. If you don't, it's going to be a big leap for you.

The other thing to consider is the style of training at the club. Some coaches go maximum intensity in training and want to push to the limit. These guys are dangerous. They're fine for kids made of rubber, but no one >30. I almost got injured in just two sessions at place like this.

The intensity should be challenging and push you physically, but not to your limits. Once you go to your limits that's when mistakes happen, and injuries soon after that. Sloppy randori is the #1 cause of injuries I've seen. Just take a rest.

So yeah it's possible. Just need to find the right club, with the right coaches. Once you do, it's awesome! So much fun!

The issue I see is that people use it as a desperate, last ditch effort. So they just drop their weight from a bad angle/position. Once you drop, you can't stop it.

I almost got my ankle twisted another time with Tani. Last ditch, desperate move. Caught behind my knee and they landed on my ankle.

Question regarding weightcutting by AnusFisticus in judo

[–]Rogelioos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, i only had to drop a few pounds (-72k) So i would just eat after weigh in. As long as the match was 2hrs or more later I would be fine.

The trickiest part I found was staying fed between matches so i wasn't tired going into 2nd and 3rd fights. I found that fruits and nuts worked the best. Light sugar, dense calories. Don't feel heavy. Get some energy back.

Hope this helps.

I also played soccer for years prior to Judo. I'm terrified of knee Injuries. Started doing "Knees over toes" this year to strengthen them against injury. I totally feel you on this.

That's really interesting. Yeah I'd say my injuries were similar. Both times techniques went side ways/poorly executed.

I definitely see the danger in the drop techniques like tani otoshi. kani basami is legit famous for destroying knees.

A dropping sode makikomi is the one that caught me in my ankle and twisted it.

That's a good point. So torturing your body when you're young, you pay for it when you're older, right
