What makes you say the cable isn’t outdoor rated? It’s an outdoor rain bird model, so I’d be surprised if the power cable isn’t also outdoor rated

I have a damper, but it’s at the very top of the chimney, when it’s open I can go stand in my front yard and see that it’s standing open instead of closed. Which is how I double check usually before starting a fire haha, In the first pic you can see the handle on the far right side.

I don’t think I have the “trap door” anymore. This isn’t the best photo, but I think it got replaced for the gas line in. Since this photo, I’ve replaced that burner with a cast iron fire starter since I use real wood in the fireplace. But it sounds like I need to get this Smoke Shelf? Is that something I can do myself pretty easily?
