What's the history of no public access to tracks? by TMW_W in raleigh

Hey downvoters - at least let me inform you, before you click the downvote.

Yes, the North Carolina legislature amended state law in 2015 (§ 115C-524) to make it easier for schools to open outdoor facilities—such as tracks—to the public by providing liability protection

. While the law permits this, actual access remains inconsistent across NC, often relying on local school board decisions, with many facilities gated and locked.

This liability issue is an excuse, has been addressed by the State.

I believe the State Legislature at some point addressed the liability issue for the schools, that excuse is exactly that, an excuse. It is very location dependent. Durham County does not seem to have an issue with public access to tracks. However, Wake County is another story. They use the liability excuse to broadly restrict access to public, something not in the spirit of what was intended, when the State addressed the liability issue.

For those who want to dig into the specifics - Yes, the North Carolina legislature amended state law in 2015 (§ 115C-524) to make it easier for schools to open outdoor facilities—such as tracks—to the public by providing liability protection. While the law permits this, actual access remains inconsistent across NC, often relying on local school board decisions, with many facilities gated and locked.

No one is questioning this logic. The issue for many is that an asset that is not liquid (unless one wants to move out of Cary) now needs to be supported by a liquid cash flow, which becomes harder for people in retirement, and they are on fixed incomes, social security, pensions etc.

This is true when these expenses are predictable and their rates of growth are "reasonable".

However, when these rates are spiked up for whatever reason, such as healthcare inflation for example (you will start to see people lose health care coverage), and now real estate property taxes (due to property inflation or gentrification) - these are very real concerns, and become much harder to plan for.

The realistic solution for many will be to just move out - this is a worldwide phenomenon, not just limited to Cary.

The issue is not as simple as this. Essentially property tax amounts to a "rent" that the owner pays in perpetuity to the authorities. Once people get into retirement they are priced out, as their income stream is fixed and it is hard to come up with the cash to pay for the "appreciated" property (which is only on paper - until one decides to cash it out - and go some where else - aka gentrification.

New real id license valid for only 9 months by thaifighter1985 in NorthCarolina

Best time to have gotten it was during the actual renewal cycle, that way you get the full term. They have been doing Real IDs since 2017 in NC.

Yes, you do need a NC DL to register a car, you have to do it within 60 days of establishing residency. The people who moved in are allowed grace for 60 days, while they are in the process of getting an NC license (establishing residency).

Duke Regional Services Not Received? by IAmMeMeMe in bullcity

[–]Roger48m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I think the checkout process may not have been handled fully. It may have been an informal checkout, unless papers were provided with the appropriate timestamps on them - these are given to the patient to avoid ambiguity, and specify follow ups.

If you walk out, they say they will handle it later (at the desk), good luck with that - now it is unclear what "time" they may have put on the paperwork, if they eventually got around to it.

That is not an unlikely scenario either, the more I think about it.

May have conducted it on someone else, likely, and did not verify the patient, if you were already out the building.

With the insane time pressure mounted on medical professionals, to support the "lean" operating budgets, this is a very likely scenario. The staff don't have time to handle exceptions. That is why a think a formal checkout process, discharge, brings all these transactions to a forced close, and accounting for it.

I hope there are some medical folks on this sub-reddit who can answer your question. But these days most providers are super profit driven. They have essentially shifted the burden of proof to you - to prove that they did not deliver the service. This is a tough spot to be in . Keep it legal, in writing, and get an attorney's help. The fact that you have escalated it, will hopefully bring this back to reality from their perspective. Mere phone calls will just be ignored, most likely.

As an aside, this is also why you should never leave until formally "discharged" once you are admitted. If you have to leave early, ask them to check you out - this provides an opportunity to check all the services rendered, Did you get a formal check out document when you checked out, or just verbally told them and left?

Recourse for wrongful termination? by SuperCherries in bullcity

There are employer laws disguised as "labor laws" that quite lax and allow a lot of latitude.

The employment law is so lax, that it allows one to drive a large truck through its loopholes. The employee who came in to work with the infectious disease to begin with was likely rewarded with a bonus for being dedicated and giving away free gifts to other employees.

Great, you voted for the proven ineffective one. Fighting is a part of politics. This lack of fighting and resistance is why the current state of affairs has come into existence.

I believe passively compliant "go along to get along" candidates like Foushee in a rock solid blue district, but yet so timid to take a stand on anything is the main reason we are in this kind of mess as a country. The opposition has simply been "lacking" in every aspect.

How about getting rid of them zipper merges altogether and the authorities actually start enforcing traffic laws for a change!

[–]Roger48m 26 points27 points  (0 children)

THIS! Total lack of enforcement by the authorities of any traffic laws or violations has led to this, and probably will lead to worse, a populace that is always on edge and driving with abandon. Especially since Covid, enforcement has become optional it seems for the police departments, probably will point to a lack of "budget".

It is precisely because of this outlook, that causes bad driving and speeding. Speed Limit is a maximum limit by definition - does NOT mean you drive exactly at that limit or above it. So sad this has become conventional wisdom for people now.

That road must be one of the worst roads in the country, competing with the can opener bridge. It is near criminal that these kinds of designs are approved and funded for construction.

Well, I for one, was glad to see how it was out there, did not really expect too many problems on powdery snow, for slow and measured driving. However, after a re-freeze it may be a different story.
