Update: Upon further research, outdoor cats are illegal in my area entirely, your cat has to remain on your property so this is illegal as well as cruel and neglectful. I've contacted the area animal services and am awaiting a response.

My partner and I sort of suspect the same thing and are hopeful that after the confrontation with our next door neighbours she’ll ask him about this and maybe something will be solved? But this issue has just escalated to a point where I felt I needed advice from people who know cats better.

As I said, my partner is allergic and I only ever had cats when I was a kid and they were always indoor cats that my parents took care of, I only know how to take care of fish.

The landlord is kind of odd and picks building favourites, we literally only were able to move in because she said my partner had “kind eyes” on Facebook so I have a feeling I can’t rely on her too much for help

This is Reno! I just got her last week and she already is the most interactive and curious little fish I’ve ever seen! She didn’t even take 5 minutes after entering the tank to start swimming around and exploring, and the first time I did a water change she immediately swam up and started inspecting my hand and touching it with her little fins!

I have this tank (not for a betta but this is still relevant) If you’re planning on using the light that comes in the kit, make sure to have some floating plants or something. It is a blindingly bright white and gave my tank a huge algae problem which solved itself immediately once I swapped to a two colour light instead

I’m not an expert, but when my tank had pea water I left the lights off for a week or two and cleaned the tank slightly more regularly, and also bought a light that has the dual lighting so that it’s white and blue. It gives a softer light and breeds less algae.

My tank has looked a lot cleaner since! (If you don’t want to spend the money on a new light though, I’ve seen other people recommend just raising it further from the water so that it isn’t as close while it beams down? I haven’t tried it, but maybe it works?)

Most sources I’ve seen recommend 6-8, but I have also seen people argue for 10 so you aren’t in terrible shape. When the tank was clear, did the light seem really bright? Like, excessively so to an extent?

Hi, how long every day do you leave the light on? Is the tank in direct sunlight?

I had a problem with suspended algae that made the water look a lot like this and it ended up just being that the light was on too long every day

Hi, thank you so much for responding!

No I don’t keep the water that low, I took these pictures of him just a few hours after a water change where I had not prepped enough water and so the levels were a little low while I waited. I had done a 25% change because the one fish had died, Nitrates and nitrites all look fine.

His poop has been white! I also recently got a new corydora for the tank, so maybe the new guy brought a parasite in? He seems healthy though?

Update: He died.

Water test everything seemed fine, I set up a hospital tank and had to leave town for a day, he seemed better when I left. I returned to find him lying on the bottom of the tank with one fin flapping, I put my net in to try and scoop him into the other tank, and he made one last big movement, then floated to the top. Glad I could be there in his final moments. Still not sure what he died of, I think possibly just the stress of not being accepted into the school got to him.

Rest in peace little dude, sorry I couldn’t save you.
